Settled in the Maritimes of Canada, surrounded by the forest and Acadian Mountain Chain, I live a simple life of gratitude. This blog is a journal of my art, food, furkids, garden, home, my life and my thoughts. Thanks for reading!
Happy Halloween and a Blessed Samhain my friends!!! I know that a lot of folks aren't bothering with the fun this year, but we are doing the same thing we always do, having fun at home and enjoying food and drinks! This year I decided to do 5 days of Halloween food, here are the goodies. I haven't had time to include recipes as of yet, but I will be updating my Recipe Page over the next few weeks! Thanks for visiting!! Note: 3 of these dishes were only possible because I totally splurged on this skull pan!
My Pumpkins: Michael Myers (Halloween Movies) and Jack Torrance (The Shining)
Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Halloween Party! Anything goes for this theme as long as it's related to Halloween! Bugs Bunny had to really prepare for this photo shoot so he demanded a larger dressing room with extra carrots. How could I refuse? 😊 Isn't he an amazing actor?
I am so pleased how this watercolour turned out...it was just a simple idea and I'm happy I was able to use such a loose style while painting it!
Here is an ink and graphite piece I did - some lovely witches brewing up magic!
Margaret Hamilton - the perfect Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz - done in charcoals. She has an unmistakable voice...she did a lot of radio back in the 1940's. Alex and I listen to The Jack Benny Show every night at dinner and we always recognize her when she's a guest star!

Fierce Cat Inside!
I wish I was flying South for the winter!
I'm back baby! 😊 My love for cooking, baking and food is back in full force! These are CLT's with Sauteed Mushrooms on sub buns (The C is for Cheddar).
PS: IF ANYONE WAS HAVING TROUBLE VIEWING/PRINTING MY RECIPES...IT'S FIXED NOW!!!
We cracked open my Camembert and Jarlsberg cheeses - success!!! This was my first time using vegan rennet to make the cheeses and they tasted very yummy! My cheeses are now officially 100% vegetarian! (Recipes can be found on my blog: Rainy Day Cheese Making)
My FIVE DAYS of Halloween dinners/desserts/drinks are in full swing! On Saturday October 31st, I'll post all of the foodie photos, so please drop by!
Here's a Halloween food teaser: Double chocolate Boo-scotti! (recipe to follow)

Hello Friends! Great news, yesterday morning I walked by the live cage trap and look who I found!
I was so happy, elated...to say the least. We called the man from the SPCA and he brought him to the shelter, it's a no-kill shelter so he will be looked at by a vet and re-homed. Alex and I decided we couldn't keep him because we don't have the time to train him right now; plus him and Charlie didn't get along. What really makes me sad is that WE were the only ones to take action. He was lost for a week before we found out and nobody had called the SPCA...
One of the neighbours said that if he saw him, he was going to shoot him - I was beside myself with shock...lots of folks around here see dogs and cats as objects and it really sickens me.
His former owners abandoned him. Our neighbour's son took him in to help find him a new home, and that's when he wiggled out of his collar and ran away. After a few days the son gave up looking for him...The SPCA is known for finding all abandoned dogs and cats good homes and they screen rigidly. Even though my heart is sad for Trigger, I know he'll find a forever home.
Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Urban Legends. Tweety Bird and Bugs Bunny are re-enacting a very cute version of a popular urban legend: The Tooth Fairy. I remember receiving dimes whenever I lost my baby teeth...I wonder how much The Tooth Fairy leaves kids these days? I recently read a much more sinister version of this legend...I'll spare you the details!! 👀
Note: Starting next Thursday, I'm changing the art date's linky to expire on Fridays at midnight. Please revisit to make sure you don't miss those who join in a little late! Also, if anyone adds a link that has nothing to do with the art date theme, it will be removed!
A Local Urban Legend!!
Legend of the Dangarvon Whooper: A young man took on a job as a cook with a logging company in northern New Brunswick. His only possession was a money belt filled with coins. He was well-liked and whooped as he laughed and made jokes. One night, the boss of the camp killed him and stole his money belt. When the crew woke up, the boss told them that he'd been sick and died overnight. Due to a storm, the loggers couldn't leave the area and had to bury the young cook in a shallow grave in the nearby Dangarvon Woods. To this day, if you walk by those woods, you can hear whooping and screaming from the tormented spirit of the young cook. (Ink and watercolours)
Another fine urban legend is that Twinkies can survive the end of the world...likely because most of their ingredients are non-pronounceable! I got inspiration from the original logo "Twinkie The Kid" and the face from the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. (Pigment liner pens and graphite)
The Black-Eyed Children: On cold, dark autumn nights, beware as you get into your car. You may hear a scratching at your window from lost children who beg you to drive them home. These are not children, they are evil creatures who are pale with black eyes who intend you great harm. (Black and white charcoal)

Jack and Marlene - Waiting for Supper
A grouse hangs out on my front step every morning - not a great photo, I took it through the window!
This is Trigger. He ran away from a neighbour's home 12 days ago. They rescued him from a bad home and were trying to re-home him when he squirmed his way out of the collar he was wearing. He's a 3-year old Sharpei. He's been roaming the blueberry fields. Alex and I have been out daily trying to find him and bring him home. The SPCA has a live trap set up at an abandoned camp where he was last seen. Fingers crossed we find him! I'd love to keep him if we can find him, but we'll have to see how he gets along with the six other furries first!
OCT 24 UPDATE: WE CAUGHT TRIGGER!!!!! He's currently at a (no-kill) shelter being looked after by a vet and they will find him a good home! 😇😇😇 We realized that it would be too much for us to keep him, plus him and Charlie did NOT get along! Our dogs come first. I know he'll find a loving forever home!

My 2020 garden was a bust - many factors worked against me, including a late start due to buying a house and moving during Covid; the rock dust that sprayed the garden when we had our well drilled; and a very hot and dry summer. BUT...I managed to harvest about 30 small potatoes and plant my garlic for the spring. I also put my asparagus bed to rest for the winter. I'm not sure I'll do a garden next summer or not...we'll see!
We ate leftover Thanksgiving food for four days! The highlight of this week was this pizza that Alex created: Peach jam and goat cheese on a pita, drizzled with BBQ sauce - it was SO delicious! We're eating from the freezer and pantry this week, I have to do the monthly shopping this weekend.
Today I'm linking up with some lovely bloggers, please visit them for some very fun and interesting posts!
