Welcome my Friends, to Thursday's Art and Dinner Date! ππ
π¨For our π¨ Art Date π¨, today's optional prompt is Brushes! Please feel free to share any art you've created, we would love to see it! Bugs is taking care of those pearly whites to make sure he can always chomp away at his carrots!
⬆️⬆️ π¦ π¦ To my birding friends: I'm pretty sure I saw a Northern Harrier the other day on the blueberry fields. These photos are not that great but the behaviour was interesting. I read on the website Boreal Songbirds Initiative that the Northern Harrier male is: "usually seen gliding unsteadily over marshes with its wings held in a shallow V." I thought at first that it was having trouble flying, but it kept up this behaviour, seemed to be hunting.
⬆️⬆️ More critters...there's a handsome little fox hanging around my woods, the trail cam picked him up the other night!
πFor our π Dinner Date π, I made some delicious Challah Bread! I love this bread. Our friend Jeanie posted her hubby Rick's homemade Challah bread on her recent blog post...it looks SOOO good. Well done Rick, makes me realize I need to work on my braiding!!! ☺

Fun take on brushes Rain. Love the abstract rainbow brushwork too. The ciabatta looks delicious. Very exciting about the growlights!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine! I'm so excited about the grow lights!
DeleteAnother lovely post full of ideas. Hugs,Valerie
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie! ☺
DeleteHi Rain, Blogger is letting me sign in and comment today - long may it last! So nice to see Jack having a walk and looking happy. Your basement garden is amazing, how very clever :) That little fox must be hungry, we get them and always know as the light on our door comes on when they come close.
ReplyDeleteThanks Betty! ♥ I hope Blogger keeps letting you comment. I don't understand why we have so many issues...
DeleteLOVE your rainbow (and indeed all rainbows). I have a huge soft spot for foxes too, even though they were introduced here and have caused a lot of damage (which is not their fault).
ReplyDeleteThanks EC! ♥ Too bad they cause damage, they are very timid creatures and get a bad wrap. I love seeing them in the back woods!
DeleteMmmmm bread!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm Mmmmm! ☺
DeleteHello Rain,
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your toon characters, well done! It does look like a Northern Harrier, they have the white band around their tails. Neat capture of the fox. Your bread looks delicious! Take care , have a great day!
Thanks Eileen! I figured you would be one of the people who would definitely let me know about the Harrier! ☺
DeleteYour photographs are clear enough, Rain, to identify the bird as a Northern Harrier. Not only that, but I can tell you that it is a male. It's always a wonderful bird to see. Well done! All the best - David
ReplyDeleteThanks David! I kicked myself later thinking I should have taken a video. The way it was hunting was really something to see! I haven't seen that bird since that day though, I'm keeping my eyes peeled! ☺
DeleteWishing all, a happy Thursday
ReplyDeletemuchπ€love
Thanks Gillena! ♥♥
DeleteI don't know what that bird is, but it sure is big!
ReplyDeleteIt had quite a wing span Debra, I'd never seen one like that before!
DeleteYou took the words right out of my mouth ... "look at him go"! How wonderful to see Jack up and about and clearly very happy. Yes, I do believe you saw a Northern Harrier ... how Awesome. You will probably see him again if he is successful hunting that field. We had a field where there was a family of Northern Harriers hunting and if we went to watch them at dusk, they switched out with a family of Short Eared Owls. Sadly we had to watch through binoculars, so it wasn't possible to get pictures, but it was an awesome experience. I don't want to send you out at dusk, but there is a good chance there is an owl that switches out with the Harrier and hunts at night. Do you hear owls at night? Love your little Fox ... I love your Trail Cam. I think I should set one up in our back yard ... we have a lot of critters that pass through because we live on the edge of a farm field. I would hear coyotes yipping when I was out with Izzi for her night walk. Made me nervous as when they are in a group they may be hungry enough and brave enough to go after a dog ... but probably not with a human in the picture.
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks yummy ... I am not a baker, but I used to be and I love fresh baked anything. I love it so much that I would eat it all, sometimes before my FH got home from work. Not good for the body :0
You are going to have a lot of tomatoes this year I think, looking at the number of plants you have started. I hope my DIL plants tomatoes this year ... I eat fresh tomatoes like apples when I can get them right of the vine ... yummm!
So I am off to start thinking about Libraries ... another prompt that I probably don't have any photos of. So back to the drawing board :) Be well, Rain and thank you for all you do to make our lives more enjoyable ...
Andrea @ From the Sol
Thanks Andrea! Oh yes, I hear owls at night, but rarely see them. I don't mind going out at dusk, but I'd have to go safely and park my car near the blueberry fields. The coyotes are out at dusk and it's pitch black around here! No street lights!!! The trail cam is awesome, I got the second one out in the backyard for the birds and I'll have some really nice photos next blog post. The only thing is they don't last. If the temperature gets too cold, they just conk out. And they really eat up the batteries, but I think it's worth it.
DeleteI hope I get a lot of tomatoes! It would be so cool if they grew in the basement too. I have to plan out my May seed planting soon!! ♥♥
Beautiful blog
ReplyDeleteThank you! ☺
DeleteI would have to see that wonderful challah bread knowing that bread is restricted for awhile and then whole wheat or multi-grain is what's recommended on the South beach Plan (sigh). It was good to see Raven and Jack out walking together despite Jack's diagnosis. It certainly is mud season seeing those deep track ruts and hope cars do not get stuck. The watercolor rainbow was really nice. I am not a birder so good that David G could confirm your harrier sighting
ReplyDeleteThanks Dorothy! ♥ That mud is like quick sand in some places, I hate walking in the mud! But the dogs come first! ☺ Oh dear, I could never go on a diet plan every...I'm not a fan of whole wheat or whole grain breads...even if it causes a little weight gain, I can't give up white bread!!! ☺
DeleteAlso wanted to add that the indoor grow garden is doing great and how wonderful that you will be able to pick veggies indoors!
ReplyDeleteI know!!! I'm so excited about it!
DeleteReally great watercolor Rain!
ReplyDeleteThanks TB! ☺
DeleteWhat a sight of the Northern Harrier! That would have made my day - how utterly beautiful. Maybe you will see him again
ReplyDeleteYour challah looks delicious - the braiding can be tricky sometimes. I sometimes bake a German hazelnut braid, and the braiding always gets me. It never looks as good as I envision it.
That Northern Harrier was really cool Carola, I've never seen anything like it, the way it was hunting! I do hope I'll see him again! Oh yes, I imagined a perfectly braided Challah lol...it still tasted amazing of course!!! ☺
DeleteBugs is great, bread looks yummy and bird is awesome ~
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Thanks Carol! ♥
DeleteLooks like everything is going really well! I always love visiting your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Leigh! Life is busy and it's about to get busier now that spring is here! I'm sure you can relate!!! ☺☺
DeleteOh, that's very smart and good of Bunny to take care of his teeth, dearest Rain!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if your bird is a Northern Harrier, but the fox is definitely a fox π and it looks cute ❤️! And the Challah Bread looks delicious - it is very similar to the Easter Pinzen and Easter Braids that are traditionally baked in Austria (not only on Easter π). This is also a yeast dough - if you are interested in the (very fluffy) recipe of my husband, I have it here: https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2019/11/extra-flaumiger-hefezopf-germstrietzel.html (He uses some special flour like Kamut = primeval wheat, but you can use any flour).
Happy Rainbow- and tomatoes-growing-days π·☘️π·!
Hugs & all the best from Austria, Traude

Thanks for the recipe link Traude! I'm always interested in bread recipes! Your husband's bread looks fantastic! Very well braided!!! ♥♥
DeleteLots to see on your post ...
ReplyDeletePleased to see Bugs cleaning his teeth :)
Your bread looks delicious.
Enjoy the coming week.
All the best Jan
Thanks Jan! ♥ Oh yes, Bugs needs to brush those oranges stains off his teeth once in a while! ☺☺
DeleteThis is another great post Rain. Hurrah for some tomatoes growing. And your challah bread looks delicious. And nice seeing that northern harrier too. Sounds like you had a good week and I hope the rest of your week goes well. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThanks Erika! ♥ It was so cool seeing the Northern Harrier, I hope I see him again! Btw, I got a pullman pan!!! ☺ Just a mini one to make half loafs, I will have to try it out soon!!
DeleteI'm of zero help on the bird ID, but I love seeing the landscape where you live, Rain. :) And just before you explained about Jack having a tumor in his nasal cavity, I was thinking "How happy those dogs are!" I'm glad to read that medicine is helping Jack feel better.
ReplyDeleteThanks Becki! ♥ You wouldn't even know he was sick...but then dogs hide their pain a lot. He's still doing pretty well! ☺
DeleteWonderful, dear Rain ... and thank you so much for your lovely comments. I`m sorry for late writing, my Corona is always hardly.
ReplyDeleteNever heared befora of this bread, you made. It looks like an Italian focaccia . It looks very delicious. Thank you for hosting, I come tomorrow to linking.
Hugs by Heidrun
Thanks Heidrun! Oh I didn't realize you had Covid! Blogger won't allow the translation to work on non-English sites every so often, so I can't really figure things out! I get hints through the comments people leave though. I do hope you are doing much better! ♥♥
DeleteYour challah looks beautiful, Rain (and thanks for the shout-out!). Doesn't it make great French toast? I love your Bugs and also your fox. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Jeanie...yes, it makes DE-licious French toast!!! ♥
DeleteYou should move to Hawaii. So sunny here, you don't need grow lights.
ReplyDeleteGigi I would love to live somewhere warmer!!! So tempting!! ☺☺
Delete...thanks for the commenting tip!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Tom! ☺
DeleteMy daughter was going to make Challah for Easter, but she ran out of power!
ReplyDeleteOh that sucks Jenn!!! We lose power here a lot, I'm always wondering if it'll happen just as I put the bread in the oven!
DeleteI wrote down up coming themes, in my bullet journal.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe.
I hope you join in some times Dora!! ☺
DeleteI have been away from blog world for a long time but it's so nice to come back to your art, photos and food!!!
ReplyDeleteJenn!!!!! ♥♥ So nice to see your comment! I've been seeing some of your IG posts and wondering how you're doing!!
DeleteI haven't stopped by your site in ages! Glad I happened on your post. Your art is wonderful. I should get out my paints and brushes again. See if I do better than the last disaster I painted.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan!! ♥ So nice to see your comment! If you do get the paints out, please join in!
DeleteGood for Bugs! Brushing your teeth for a healthy mouth is very, very important. I love how you are inspired to incorporate the Looney Tune characters with your weekly art prompts. You're so clever and such a darn good artist!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Cathy!! ♥♥
DeleteLoved the shot of the fox and I can smell the bread from here. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteOoh yes the bread! I need to find time to make more! the fox is amazing, I saw him (or her) running in the back woods...red color zigzagging through the grey woods!
DeleteVery cool, Rain! Hey, forgot to tell you in email that today I made more mung beans in the pressure cooker. I have a lot of the dried mung beans and now I'm playing with different things to do with them. So fun!
DeleteThat sounds great Ivy, I love how creative you are in the ktichen! ♥
