Welcome my Friends, to Thursday's Art and Dinner Date! 😊😊

🎨For our 🎨 Art Date 🎨, today's optional prompt is Brushes! Please feel free to share any art you've created, we would love to see it!  Bugs is taking care of those pearly whites to make sure he can always chomp away at his carrots!

I pulled out my watercolor brushes and painted this abstract rainbow!

πŸ¦ 🐦 To my birding friends: I'm pretty sure I saw a Northern Harrier the other day on the blueberry fields. These photos are not that great but the behaviour was interesting. I read on the website Boreal Songbirds Initiative that the Northern Harrier male is: "usually seen gliding unsteadily over marshes with its wings held in a shallow V." I thought at first that it was having trouble flying, but it kept up this behaviour, seemed to be hunting.

What do you guys think?

⬆️⬆️
More critters...there's a handsome little fox hanging around my woods, the trail cam picked him up the other night!

⬆️⬆️
I have tomatoes growing in the basement garden!!! The grow lights are doing their job!

πŸ˜‹For our πŸ˜‹ Dinner Date πŸ˜‹, I made some delicious Challah Bread! I love this bread. Our friend Jeanie posted her hubby Rick's homemade Challah bread on her recent blog post...it looks SOOO good. Well done Rick, makes me realize I need to work on my braiding!!! ☺

  3. Hi Rain, Blogger is letting me sign in and comment today - long may it last! So nice to see Jack having a walk and looking happy. Your basement garden is amazing, how very clever :) That little fox must be hungry, we get them and always know as the light on our door comes on when they come close.

  4. LOVE your rainbow (and indeed all rainbows). I have a huge soft spot for foxes too, even though they were introduced here and have caused a lot of damage (which is not their fault).

    1. Thanks EC! ♥ Too bad they cause damage, they are very timid creatures and get a bad wrap. I love seeing them in the back woods!

  5. Hello Rain,
I always enjoy your toon characters, well done! It does look like a Northern Harrier, they have the white band around their tails. Neat capture of the fox. Your bread looks delicious! Take care , have a great day!

    1. Thanks Eileen! I figured you would be one of the people who would definitely let me know about the Harrier! ☺

  6. Your photographs are clear enough, Rain, to identify the bird as a Northern Harrier. Not only that, but I can tell you that it is a male. It's always a wonderful bird to see. Well done! All the best - David

    1. Thanks David! I kicked myself later thinking I should have taken a video. The way it was hunting was really something to see! I haven't seen that bird since that day though, I'm keeping my eyes peeled! ☺

  9. You took the words right out of my mouth ... "look at him go"! How wonderful to see Jack up and about and clearly very happy. Yes, I do believe you saw a Northern Harrier ... how Awesome. You will probably see him again if he is successful hunting that field. We had a field where there was a family of Northern Harriers hunting and if we went to watch them at dusk, they switched out with a family of Short Eared Owls. Sadly we had to watch through binoculars, so it wasn't possible to get pictures, but it was an awesome experience. I don't want to send you out at dusk, but there is a good chance there is an owl that switches out with the Harrier and hunts at night. Do you hear owls at night? Love your little Fox ... I love your Trail Cam. I think I should set one up in our back yard ... we have a lot of critters that pass through because we live on the edge of a farm field. I would hear coyotes yipping when I was out with Izzi for her night walk. Made me nervous as when they are in a group they may be hungry enough and brave enough to go after a dog ... but probably not with a human in the picture.
Your bread looks yummy ... I am not a baker, but I used to be and I love fresh baked anything. I love it so much that I would eat it all, sometimes before my FH got home from work. Not good for the body :0
You are going to have a lot of tomatoes this year I think, looking at the number of plants you have started. I hope my DIL plants tomatoes this year ... I eat fresh tomatoes like apples when I can get them right of the vine ... yummm!
So I am off to start thinking about Libraries ... another prompt that I probably don't have any photos of. So back to the drawing board :) Be well, Rain and thank you for all you do to make our lives more enjoyable ...

    1. Thanks Andrea! Oh yes, I hear owls at night, but rarely see them. I don't mind going out at dusk, but I'd have to go safely and park my car near the blueberry fields. The coyotes are out at dusk and it's pitch black around here! No street lights!!! The trail cam is awesome, I got the second one out in the backyard for the birds and I'll have some really nice photos next blog post. The only thing is they don't last. If the temperature gets too cold, they just conk out. And they really eat up the batteries, but I think it's worth it.

I hope I get a lot of tomatoes! It would be so cool if they grew in the basement too. I have to plan out my May seed planting soon!! ♥♥

  10. I would have to see that wonderful challah bread knowing that bread is restricted for awhile and then whole wheat or multi-grain is what's recommended on the South beach Plan (sigh). It was good to see Raven and Jack out walking together despite Jack's diagnosis. It certainly is mud season seeing those deep track ruts and hope cars do not get stuck. The watercolor rainbow was really nice. I am not a birder so good that David G could confirm your harrier sighting

    1. Thanks Dorothy! ♥ That mud is like quick sand in some places, I hate walking in the mud! But the dogs come first! ☺ Oh dear, I could never go on a diet plan every...I'm not a fan of whole wheat or whole grain breads...even if it causes a little weight gain, I can't give up white bread!!! ☺

  11. Also wanted to add that the indoor grow garden is doing great and how wonderful that you will be able to pick veggies indoors!

  12. What a sight of the Northern Harrier! That would have made my day - how utterly beautiful. Maybe you will see him again
Your challah looks delicious - the braiding can be tricky sometimes. I sometimes bake a German hazelnut braid, and the braiding always gets me. It never looks as good as I envision it.

    1. That Northern Harrier was really cool Carola, I've never seen anything like it, the way it was hunting! I do hope I'll see him again! Oh yes, I imagined a perfectly braided Challah lol...it still tasted amazing of course!!! ☺

  15. Oh, that's very smart and good of Bunny to take care of his teeth, dearest Rain!
I don't know if your bird is a Northern Harrier, but the fox is definitely a fox πŸ˜‰ and it looks cute ❤️! And the Challah Bread looks delicious - it is very similar to the Easter Pinzen and Easter Braids that are traditionally baked in Austria (not only on Easter πŸ˜‰). This is also a yeast dough - if you are interested in the (very fluffy) recipe of my husband, I have it here: https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2019/11/extra-flaumiger-hefezopf-germstrietzel.html (He uses some special flour like Kamut = primeval wheat, but you can use any flour).
    Happy Rainbow- and tomatoes-growing-days 🌷☘️🌷!
Hugs & all the best from Austria, Traude
