Thursday Art Date: October Spooks! - Broomsticks

Hello Friends! 😊😊

Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Broomsticks! I had to showcase Witch Hazel from the Looney Tunes for this theme!!!

"Bring me the broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West"....commanded the Almighty Wizard of Oz to Dorothy! I had a lot of fun drawing Margaret Hamilton from The Wizard of Oz, in charcoals! Though she wasn't the director's first choice (uh...really?????) she was the perfect witch!

Here are my latest videos, please click on the images above or the links below if you'd like to check them out!

For the intro to my art video today, I filmed myself in my best witchy outfit!

  1. Creepy things around ... it's season for brooms and other accessoires for Halloween. Your costume, Rain, looks perfect for this event. And your painting too 🧟‍♀️

  2. About an hour ago, I decided to take photos of the brooms in my office. Not good photos, but I shouldn't have waited so long to think to take them.

I am not familiar with Hazel, but I like how you drew her. I am, however, familiar with Margaret Hamilton. Did you know she was burned when the green makeup she was wearing caught fire when she was leaving Munchkinland? She had to be hospitalized as a result of the mishap. I think she was the perfect wicked witch of the west and also a great Almira Gulch, too. I'm from Kansas, so The Wizard of Oz is big in my state. You did a great job recreating Margaret Hamilton. I've always said the Wizard of Oz is the best horror story I've ever seen.

I love, love, love your witchy outfit. Those gloves are unbelievable, love the hat, and that broom stick is amazing. Take car and I hope your new roof doesn't put you in the poor house, dear.

  8. Rain,

Oh girl, were we ever on the same page this week, except I held off presenting Witch Hazel today. I'll bring her out of the shadows next week. ;) You did a great job capturing the Looney Tunes character. And, you did a fantastic job on the Wicked Witch of the West! Oooh, you look very ready for Halloween. Have you been brewing some potions and spells? lol I'm not linking up again but for anyone interested, I do have this week's art illustration. Stay safe and be well, dearie!

PS: Have you considered allowing comments from others just using their name & URL? I'm trying to cut ties Google. They are so nosey!

  20. I'd completely forgotten about witch hazel, great sketch with colour Rain. Your charcoal witch is extremely atmospheric, i can almost hear her squeaky voice saying *My Pretty*... << Shudders!! You look fabulous in your Witches outfit with broom, really wish i'd had time to add a broomstick to my moon this week but I had a hospital appointment to attend so time was cut shorter than ever.
Wishing you all the best with that new roof.

  21. Happy early Halloween! In the u.s. sits on the 31st not sure about Canada? Are you guys getting any cold weather there yet? It was actually 75 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday which was bizarre. It's been nice and cool lately and we're finally going to have a 5-day rain storm starting sometime later today hopefully. Been so so dry here. I always love The Wizard of Oz!I watched it as a kid and then our kids watched it. Congrats on getting a new roof! Good time to get it going into winter

  25. Dear Rain,
just recently (in the wake of the tragic accident on the set of "Rust") I read about an accident that Margaret Hamilton suffered while filming "The Wizard of Oz": She was injured in the scene in which she disappears in a cloud of smoke from the colorful land of the Munchkins. The trapdoor below her did not open quickly enough, causing the flames from the explosion to engulf her black robe and inflict second and third degree burns on the actress. There isn't much to see of it in the finished film, but it does say that the exact take on which the accident occurred was actually used in the end... Apparently the acting profession and everything that has to do with it is more dangerous than you think. In the future we will be more careful in our extras jobs ...
Hopefully no accidents or mishaps happened to you as a witch - you look radiant - yes, enchanting - in any case!
    Hugs and all the best,
    Traude

  26. You couldn't have picked too better witches for your art. Both are awesome ... I especially love The Wicked Witch of the West (as you know the Wizard of Oz holds special meaning to me). But I have to admit, my favorite is you as a witch ... a good witch I am sure and a beautiful witch at that. I am struggling to do my comments this week ... this has been a hard week for our family and I know you know the feelings I am experiencing better than most as we both now have shared a tragic loss. I hope I am able to come back to watch your spiritual Rain. I am learning so much from you that I have been aware of at a distance, but now am beginning to develop an understanding of spirituality. You would probably be surprised at what a big part of my life you have become. Stay well, Rain ...

  27. That is a lovely charcoal. And I am strangely excited by a new roof. Lots of folks around here are getting one; it makes me think about it myself.

  28. Thanks for your comments my friends!!!

@Elizabeth: Oh yes, I read up on all of the Wizard of Oz trivia. Margaret Hamilton said, long after her acting career was over, that she knew if she made a fuss about being burned, she'd never work again so she didn't sue the production company, instead she insisted no more fire.

@Cathy: I agree about Google being nosy! Right now I have my comments set to the only setting where I don't get hundreds of spam comments! But eventually I'm going to be moving away from Blogger, hopefully soon!

@Nancy from Little Homestead In Boise: Yup Halloween is this Sunday!!! :) It's getting cold, but thankfully no snow yet! Very different from where I used to live in Quebec and I'm very grateful!!

    @Andrea: ♥My heart breaks for you!♥
