Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Creases. Bugs Bunny gussied himself up to portray a happy housewife, ironing away the creases in her husband's shirt. If you're a Bugs fan, can you count the number of times Bugs Bunny was portrayed in drag? I can't! But RuPaul (the world's most famous drag queen) is quoted as saying "Bugs Bunny was my first introduction to drag!"

Another fine actor who has many creases in his face is Sir Anthony Hopkins...he has done too many amazing films to list here, but I think (for me anyway) his most memorable movie is The Silence Of The Lambs, playing Hannibal Lecter (also starring an amazing Jodie Foster). He's just so creepy in that movie!! This is my ink and graphite drawing of him.

I had fun doing a Prismacolor Pencil drawing of a sea turtle. These beautiful creatures have many creases in their skin. I've never seen one in person, but I think they are just stunning!
I love these Evening Grosbeaks...they are beautiful!
The following photos are a tribute to my absolutely favourite bird, the Mourning Dove. I feel blessed to have them at my feeder and on my "bird cam"!!

What a challenge! you have mastered it well and I love your turtle, they are beautiful creatures, we have had a few encounters with baby ones on our foreign travels where some countries (Costa Rica for example) are making little 'farms' just off the beaches to protect the eggs and return the babies to the sea. I think as we grow older creases are actually quite beautiful on some women - Joan Collins for example :) Betty

Morning Rain, don't those little creases get everywhere. From the very start we are born with them, as a new born baby I remember my little girl especially having some very distinctive ones, one above her lip that she still carry's today. Bugs looks very comfortable doing his ironing, I liked how he would dress up and wear his bright red lipstick, I can see why Ru-Paul would have been drawn to him. Silence of the Lambs is one of my favourite films, Anthony Hopkins has great character in his face, those little lines and creases are what makes drawing, shading and painting faces such a delight for me.. The devil in the detail.

Bugs Bunny as a housemaid is very funny! Sir Anthony Hopkins Is a really good actor!

Somehow I forgot it was March. I love Bugs and his ironing. I am a big fan of Jerry Orbach, but never saw him in Crimes and Misdemeanors, a film I'm sure I'd enjoy.

Mourning Doves are delicate, lovely birds, and I enjoy them too. They are daily visitors to my backyard where I strew corn on the ground for them. The other day I counted twenty-one feeding peaceably. Soon they will be preoccupied with nesting

ReplyDeleteI remember the days of ironing DH's office clothes. I got away from doing that many years ago. I found just making sure to get everything out of the dryer immediately and hanging his clothes up kept the wrinkles away. I helped also getting away from dress shirts. I began buying nice button up shirts that didn't require special attention. I love your Mrs. Bugs Bunny illustration. It's great! Excellent job on the creases in faces and jackets from the movie scene. Oh, WOW fabulous job on Anthony Hopkins! He was great in Silence of the Lambs but then again, he's great in everything. My favorite Hopkins' film is "The Edge". Have you seen it? Your sea turtle is nicely done, as well. I don't know how you find the time to do what you do. You amaze me! And the food?! Yum, yum, yum!! Everything looks so delicious.

ReplyDeleteLOVE your Anthony Hopkins portrait! And the sea turtle too. I saw one on a beach once in Hawaii -- what magnificent creatures! One swam in the water near My Rare One too! It was a special moment for her. And say, can Bugs come over sometime and do MY ironing?

ReplyDeleteI'm not a great fan of modern films but I definitely remember Sue getting me to watch Silence Of The Lambs. Hopkins was real scary I must admit.
You are getting lots of fun with those Mourning Doves. I guess they are entertaining on those cold mornings and you're sat with a steaming coffee but I think I would be more keen on seeing those Grosbeaks. Sorry, doves are a little boring. Have fun and keep up the good work.

ReplyDeleteI have to admit that when I first saw the title of this post, my thought went to new creases in my face (under the mask I've worn for nearly a year now). When we all emerge unmasked a some of us are going to look older. ;^)
ReplyDeleteOh my, Bugs does make a pretty housewife ... is that considered "Drag"? I always thought of "Drag" as a sexy boy/girl performer, yes? No? Anyway, whatever it is, your Bugs Bunnies are excellent. I also love your Sea Turtle ... the colors and details are amazing :) I too love the Mourning Doves ... they are so sweet and mate for life. Their soft mourning coos are beautiful and I used to love listening to them when I was on the lake. Don't here them much where I am now :( Don't let me forget to comment on Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal Lecter and his Fava beans). Oh my he was creepy, but yes, a wonderful actor. All of your drawings are sooooo good. You seem to have emerged into a state of perfection ... even with your yummy food. Still blows my mind that you can eat all that delicious high calorie food and not blow up like I do eating much less delicious food. You certainly are blessed, Rain. So off we go into empty space next week ... that is a real challenge. Be sure you keep "space" between you and anyone you don't know for the sake of safety. Don't you just love that we have two states that have lifted their mask mandates just when we were beginning to get things under control ... ARGhhhh, it makes me furious. So enough for now. ReplyDeleteBugs can come and do my household chores anytime, Rain, and would not even have to be in drag. Thanks for the info about the Woody Allen film, which I have not seen but will look for now as it has a good cast. Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorites and your art was great, but Silence of the Lambs will never be on my list of to see films, despite his great acting. As usual, the meals look great and since I have asparagus and penne pasta, I may combine them for dinner with some cheese, of course.
