Thursday Art Date: Full Cold Moon

Hello Friends and Happy New Year!! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š Here's to 2021!! ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ

Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, our last art date of 2020!!! Today our theme is Full Cold Moon. Tuesday's Full Moon was called the Cold Moon which symbolizes winter's grip on the Northern world. Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck decided to go tobogganing during the Full Moon this year!

I decided to go for a walk. I love how quiet it is on a winter's night during a Full Moon. When I'm out in Nature, I can leave all of the "noise" behind me. I drew this with ink and graphite. I only wish I could see the Northern Lights!

➡️ ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ ➡️I have a treat for you!! ⬅️ ⬅️ ⬅️ ⬅️ ⬅️

I was in a movie with Kiefer Sutherland and I'm going to show you my scene!

Okay, that's what's called "click bait" - an attention grabber lol! It is true though, I was cast as an extra and I did have some camera time! The movie is called Crazy Moon (1987) - one of Kiefer's first movies. It was filmed in Montreal and I remember that we got ginger ale and a free concert ticket to see Rational Youth, a popular Canadian band in the 80's.

I found the scene and added a few freeze frames so you can identify me in the crowd. It's a bit choppy, and only 11 seconds, but this was my "15 minutes of fame" so to speak! You can click on the "You Tube" button to see a bigger video. Yes, that's me alright, very 1980's!!! Can anyone relate to this era?

**Just to clarify!! I am the one with the black dress dancing, I have a black bandana on and Kiefer and his co-star are walking behind me!

Speaking of the 1980's, David Bowie was one of my favourite artists, especially during that decade. I know I don't necessarily look my age, but I am 52 years old and I did graduate high school in 1985. The 1980's was my favourite decade for music. The MTV, Much Music video era! I recently heard "Let's Dance" on the 80's channel and decided to draw David Bowie as he looked during that time. This is my favourite medium, white charcoal on black paper.

Baby Oscar the cat, sitting on my lap, watching "cat television" on You Tube.

Marlene is slowing down, sigh...she is nearly deaf, has trouble with bowel control, is showing signs of dementia and her hind legs give out sometimes so she doesn't always bother to stand up to eat anymore. I'm so grateful to have her in my life. We rescued her from a very cruel situation and I feel privileged to be able to give her a safe and loving home for the rest of her days.

Santa brought me a waffle iron for Christmas! Actually after reading Gigi's post on how she got a waffle iron, I couldn't help myself. Oh those Belgian waffles turned out so good! A nice little gadget that will be used very often! Gigi, I told you I'm suggestible lol!

Christmas Eve pizza and Christmas goodies: Chocolate Coconut Crunch Cookies (recipe to follow), Rum Balls, Brandy Alexander Cocktails and English Trifle

Christmas day Raclette dinner. (I didn't make the Raclette cheese this year due to lack of time, but I will next year!) Raclette is a Swiss dish and type of cheese, where you heat up the cheese and scrape it off onto meat and/or veggies. It's SO good. "Racler" in French means to scrape.

I'm still enjoying feeding the chickadees from my hand!

This little fella is thinking big!

  1. LOVE your David Bowie portrait. His work was consistently amazing wasn't it?
You were a movie star? Congratulations.
And oh, those meals. If my drool shorts out my keyboard it is YOUR fault.

  2. Bugs and Daffy look like they are having fun. You draw them SO well. There's nothing better than when it snows and there is a full moon. Your ink and graphite drawing is beautiful. I love the deer and the trees.

How clever that you were in a movie. Good for you. A movie company shot scenes inside the first home I ever owned. Guess that's my big adventure and exposure to film. The 80s were my favorite era, too, but my music of choice is from the 70s. I'm a "classic rock" fan. I DO like David Bowie, though and you drew him superbly.

Do cats REALLY like tv? I know I leave my tv on for the cats, but I thought it was just for the noise. Oscar appears to be engrossed.

Poor Marlene. At least she has a loving home to live out the rest of her days. I hate it when animals are abused, but delighted to read you rescued her from the situation.

I have my grandmother's waffle iron, but haven't used it in awhile. Looks like you made great first time waffles. Mine never look like that. I get too much batter in one area and not enough in other areas.

I need to skip watching the food. I am SO hungry for pizza and yours is so clever.

I had to laugh at the little chickadee that is thinking BIG. It made my night.

I hope you have a delightful, safe, and healthy new year and a great 2021.

  3. didn't make time for art this week, wish I had as this is a great theme - might try to catch up - love the David Bowie artwork, you are very good with charcoal. I loved Bowie and one of my favourites is when he did Dancing in the Street with Mick Jagger...a while back I went into a book shop and saw a massive coffee table book of pictures of Bowie (shortly after he died) and spent over an hour just sitting there looking through the book (coffee shop/book shop where you buy a coffee, sit and read books then buy - but I am ashamed I just soaked it all up and didn't buy - might go and do it again too!) Fun seeing you in the film :) Happy and safe New Year to you Rain - always look forward to your blog posts. Betty x

  5. Beautiful photos Rain.
I think the picture with the cat and the squirrel is cute.
    The food looks delicious.
I wish you a very happy and healthy 2021.

  6. Your funny Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck romping in the snow under the full moon. I like your black and white drawing so much this hard winter.
Huiii great that you were allowed to take part as a disco dancer
    Gorgeous drawing by David Bowie!
Sweet how your cat is watching TV and watching your dog gang full of action at the food bowl and your encounter with the birds again so beautifully, you can build up more and more trust.
So delicious food again what you show. Today iwr also eat raclette with a lot of cheese
I wish you Alex and you a happy new year 2021, take care and stay healthy, hugs Elke

  7. Hello Rain,

Your Bugs and Daffy sketch is awesome and fun! I love the full moon drawing, a favorite today. It is cool you were an extra in the movie.
Cue capture of your kitty watching cat tv. The dogs are adorable, sending hugs for Marlene. The waffles look delicious, I wish I had some this morning to eat. Love the cute chickadee eating out of your hand. I wish you all the best in 2021, a happy and healthy New Year.

  8. Gorgeous artwork today. My favorite is the mountain landscape. :)
I too love David Bowie. An amazing artist. Both music and visual. So interesting. I have seen his last video taken on his deathbed. So unique! I cried of course.

We have a Waffle day in Sweden. To start with it meant "Spring maid day" refering to Maiden May, but people was sloppy saying it so it became the Swedish word for waffles. The waffle day comes before Easter.

Nice to see you handfeed the birds, something I have never been able to do.
Take care and Happy New Year.

  9. Rain,

I wondered what you might sketch. I like that you have Daffy and Bugs tobogganing. I loved sledding when I was a kid. Nice nature sketch of you out in the silence of the woods on a cold full moon lit night. I'd love to see the Northern Lights, too. I was wondering are they only visible during the winter months? It seems all the pictures I've seen were snowy landscapes. Can any of the southern portion of Canada see them? For some reason I was thinking the NL are visible that far north. DH said his mother saw them once when she was young from their home in southern West Virginia. I guess that was anomaly.

I'm assuming the gal in front of Kiefer is you, right? This is really a cool bit of trivia. I loved the TV series "24"! He was perfect as Jack Bauer.

Yum, your Christmas Eve meal looks fabulous. Hey, I have a question for you. What's the best way to make cinnamon rolls so that they are not dry? My recipe does not have an egg but I was reading one this morning that does. Would that make a difference in the moisture of the rolls? The same recipe called for warm milk instead of water for proofing the yeast. Perhaps the fat in the milk might help make the rolls more moist.

I hope you, Alex, and the furbabies have a blessed and happy new year! Stay health and keep warm!

  10. Good morning Rain: Cheese and chickadees seems like a wonderful way to end the year to me! Let's all hope that 2021 will see some of the restrictions lifted and we will be able to travel again, and visit some of the beautiful corners of our country again. All the best for the New Year.

  11. As always you art is absolutely amazing Rain! How fun that you were in the movie. I have some years on you but can definitely relate to the era. Love all the critter shots but so sorry to hear sweet Marlene is slowing down. I know you will give her the best life possible with whatever time she has. The very best to you and yours in the new year!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Love your cold moon sketch. The stark contrast of black and white gives it the feeling of cold.

Oscar and his TV time. It cracks me up. But Marlene slowing down this much makes me sad. I am so glad she has you guys to show her love and gentleness.

I always make sure I have Aten before I read your blog lol. Your food photos are always so fabulous. You truly have a knack for cooking.

Happy New Year to you and Alex.

  13. ...you sure are well fed! Happy New Year, I'll be back tomorrow.

  14. Hi Rain. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas amongst all that snow. We had some of our own today, all of two minutes long and then sunshine.

I knew all along that fame would be yours but didn’t realise that I missed it along the way.

Your cartoons sure make me smile and I really like your walk in the moonlight.

Happy New Year to you and Alex. And a prosperous one too.

  15. You look like a cute rockin' chick in the 80s, Rain! Love your Bowie portrait! Happy New Year!

  16. Oh my goodness ... so much to comment on. Bugs and Daffy tobogganing is a riot ... and reminds of times I had when I was young enough to be able to get on and off a toboggan, Ha! I walk Izzi every night and the first thing I look for when we get outside is the moon in whatever state it is in. I agree that a walk under the moon just seems to sweep me away into another quite, peaceful world. Moments that I love as the rest of the time, it is anything but peaceful. And, LOL ... a moment of fame. I had to play the video several times to get a good look at you. You were then and still are a beautiful woman. I always loved David Bowie, but wasn't that much of a fan in general, but (this will make you laugh) my Grandchildren loooooved him ... pasted pictures of him on their wall. I was raising children in the 80's so I guess I missed out on his best years. Your portrait, by the way, is awesome. You have really mastered this medium. I love your cat movie. My cat movie has bugs crawling on the screen. The cats love it, but I don't. I like yours much better :) I am sorry about Marlene ... that is the hard part about having pets. Their short life span always leaves us with pain in the end. But, I agree, she is blessed to have such a loving, happy home. I had Raclette when I was in Switzerland ... oh, you make my mouth water. It is sooooo good. And love your little Chickadees ... they are sweet. I always had at least one pair and family on my feeders at the lake. I never tried hand feeding them, but did with some success hand feed humming birds. Happy New Year to you, Rain ... I look forward to spending next year with you and all of your wonderful followers :)

  17. Happy New Year!!
Oh MY! I love David Bowie. He's sooooo sexy. I had to see the video cut twice. You are still cute.
Poor Marlene. Just keep her comfortable and happy during her last days with you. Sing to her when you can.
I want a waffle iron now. David loves waffles and he's been buying those nasty waffles in the frozen section at the grocer. They're tough and just nasty.

  18. Love your Belgian waffles! And that cute photo of you feeding that little bird from the palm of your hand. You live a blessed life.

Happy New Year! Aloha from Hawaii.

  19. I think I saw you in the video, bright orange/red hair? Poor Marlene.
Lovely food and beautiful and fun art pieces. Happy New Year!

  20. Hey Everyone!

For the video, just to clarify!! I am the one with the black dress dancing, I have a black bandana on and Keifer and his co-star are walking behind me! Sorry I wasn't too clear about that! Where I typed in "Rain", I'm just underneath the text! :)

  21. I love the moon and Northern Lights Rain!

Funny brief story: I also have a very brief brush with films in Goldie Hawn's Protocol (1984) in which I am the kid marching with the Sousaphone in the news report. I may have had all of 10 seconds of screen time.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I bought a Belgian waffle iron plates that allow me to make them on any heat source. Imagine going camping and severely roughing it, but for breakfast each morning you had a rasher of bacon cooked on stick skewers and Belgian waffles with fresh picked wild berries all cooked over a camp fire. Yeppers! It's how I roll.

  23. First, Happy New Year to you and Alex as well, Rain. And, yes we all hope that in time 2021 will be a better and happier New Year for all of us. Sorry to read about Marlene's health issues, and while they may not improve, she has a good and loving home. It was fun to see you moment of fame, Rain. The pizza in the shape of Christmas stockings looked wonderful, what a fun idea! I expect we will be seeing many more waffle recipes next year too. We have the griddles but haven't used them in over a year so maybe we will get some inspiration soon. That was a cute photo of you hand feeding the chickadees Rain.

  24. Rain this is a great post. It is always exciting to be in a film. Nice dance moves. LOL I too love the 80's music. I was a dancing fool. My youngest brother and I won a lot of disco contests and awards. It was so much fun. I still dance every day. I don't know how you stay so thin with all the amazing foods you make. Have a fabulous New Year.

  25. Glad you took in a rescue dog! Cheese looked great. Happy New year!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh Rain how cool to show us a clip of you and Keifer i'd have been dancing too hee hee. The 80's was a mixed bag for me, started off not so good with school & mean people and ended with my meeting my soul mate, there's good and bad in everything right..? Love your midnight walk piece, I can relate to walking away from the noise and your Bowie piece is just awesome, he had one hell of a profile to draw.
The picture with Marlene made me a little sad, reminded me of mine & hubbies first dog Jade a German Shepard cross, she suffered with her back legs late in life and would at times lie down to eat, also deaf and vision impaired we had her from a pup for 18 years and all she ever asked for was to be by our side. We were very blessed to have had her in our lives for so long.
She is very lucky to have you all by her side Rain.
Hugs for the New Year ahead Tracey xx

  30. There is no magic to feeding the hummingbirds. Go to Amazon.com and write in hand held hummingbird feeders. They have all different kinds. I had a specialty bird store near me and I used the little feeder that I held in the palm of my hand. It didn't take them long to get comfortable with eating from it ... sadly, I never had someone take a picture. I didn't try the Chickadees, but I had a family that lived in on of my bird houses. They would bring their babies out, once they had fledged to the feeders in the trees. The babies were a hoot... chasing each other and chattering. I used to love watching them. So now you have a new adventure to look forward to when the weather warms up. Happy New Year, Rain :)

  36. Happy New Year, Rain! I've been catching up here, still wow'ed by Cubist Bugs. My Honey is your newest fan. I showed him all of your Warners Brothers cartoon character portraits. He said only one missing is Mighty Mouse and I said nope, different studio so he wasn't in the Looney Tunes or Merrie Melodies character series. Yes, Rain, we take our cartoons seriously in this household bwahahaha! Have you attempted Boris and Natasha and Bull Winkle and Rocky? Please direct me. I'm also excited for you to get that Spirograph. I got one from Santa as a child the same year he brought me The Adams Family Thing battery operated black box piggy bank. I love that night walk piece, gorgeous. And Honey and I decided that if we ever find ourselves lost in the Canadian Maritimes, we would definitely try our hardest to appear at your doorstop so you could nourish us back to health with all that awesome food! 37. Hello Rain,
This is a great post with lots of critters starting with Bugs Bunny and Daffy. Cute capture of the kitty watching the squirrel on TV. Your dogs are adorable. I wish the best for Marlene, I am glad you were able to rescue her. I have been seeing more people hand feeding the birds, my birds are still shy. She has had a good life with you! Your art work is always beautiful. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, stay safe! Have a happy weekend! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

Could you please show as your "cinnamon cat" ...?! I also have a cinnamon cat, is a "he" and is 17 years old!

  42. Great fun, Rain! Great cameo, too! I'm glad you clarified what Bugs and Daffy were doing. I thought they were hitting the sand on Waikiki! I've been away from Canada too long, obviously. I just tried raclette cheese for the first time recently. So yummy. I enjoy music from all decades, but I'm a child of the 60s. It's hard to believe that looking back on the 60s now was like me looking back on the 1910s then. Yikes! 1960s, 1980s, way better than the 1910s! All the best to you!

  43. well that was fun to see. I enlarged the video and played it over a few times. There you are dancing! I always love your cartoons - always fun to see. I was busy with four kids when you were out there all dancing away without a care, lol. you looked so 80ish for sure in that pic.

  48. Such a fun post, Rain! I loved seeing your 15 seconds of fame. My husband was also captured in a scene in a movie--he is in the background of a scene in the 1987 movie "Wall Street" starring Michael Douglas. They were filming a scene of Douglas leaving the same building my husband worked in at the time in Manhattan and my husband had to wait for the scene to be done before he could return to work after lunch. My husband looks quite impatient waiting in the background..lol

We were also David Bowie fans---my daughter loved his movie Labyrinth.

You had me at "melted cheese"...mmmmm! Raclette sounds delicious!

    Happy and Healthy New Year!

  49. Rain - I graduated from high school in 1982, so the 80's were very much my time frame with fashion (!) and music. The music really brings back floods of memories. Last night, we watched Wonder Woman 84 with our son, and he kept asking "Did people really dress like that?" Sorry to hear that Marlene is declining; it is heartbreaking to watch a pet in distress and know that there is very little you can do. Have you ever tried tete de moine cheese? It is one of our favorites and impossible to find anywhere near Montana! Glad to see you feeding the little feathered ones! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday, and Happy New Year to you!
