Thursday Art Date: Swipe! and Paint Party Friday!

Hello Friends! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Swipe! I had a lot of trouble with this theme...and I was the one who came up with it lol...but Bugs Bunny said he'd work extra hard at his facial expression to inspire me! I imagined his face being digitally swiped and with some tasty encouragement (fresh carrot juice), he posed for this drawing! ๐Ÿ˜Š

For this piece, I swiped a bit of Van Gogh's style from his famous Starry Night. I had no clue what would come of this, I just pulled out my pencils and pens and sketched away. I started with the sailboat then went from there. I honestly sat in my studio staring at the word "swipe" for a long time and nearly gave up! I hope next week's theme will be a little less challenging!!

Andrea asked me about the 3D art "key" drawing I did last week. Here is the link to the You Tube Tutorial. I suggest that you watch the whole video before starting. I didn't and when it came time to fold the paper for the 3D effect, it failed, so I had to do it again. Where you will be folding your paper is key <--- "pun" ๐Ÿ˜Š, to where you will draw the parts of the key and where you will place the key hole plate! (Sorry it took me so long to respond Andrea!!!)

I'm also linking up with
Paint Party Friday tomorrow!

Friends, I am stunningly, prodigiously and uncommonly busy (not too busy to consult the thesaurus though lol!). Alex and I are trying to balance fixing up the house with taking some time to be out in nature. We explored the area just north of us - a dirt/sand road that leads to a protected wildlife area and bog. We saw lots of wildlife and had a picnic by the river. Look at our dirty car! It's a front-wheel drive SUV and definitely a "city" car...not really made for these kinds of excursions...our next car will be a 4-wheel drive Jeep or some kind of pickup truck, that's for sure!

Speaking of Starry Nights, we sat outside on Tuesday night to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower and we saw a dozen meteors. I held my camera up to the sky on "shutter" mode and just clicked away. I'm so happy I was able to capture a photo of the sky I see every night to share with you! I wish one of the photos had the meteors showing though! Oh my neck is aching still from looking up for an hour, but I feel so blessed to have seen the meteors and to be living in this area! I'll write more about our days out on Sunday's post!

That's all for now folks! Please check out the link gadget below to see more Swipe! art! And join me on Sunday for my food, pets and home post! ๐Ÿ˜Š

********************

On our drive home Tuesday night, we slowed down when we thought we saw something in the road; we realized the black shape we saw crossing the road was a black bear cub. The mamma was in the ditch waiting for her baby.

August 20th: Next Thursday's theme is Night Scene. Click on the link for ideas and inspiration! Remember it's all about creating. You can showcase your paintings, drawings, photography, sculpting, baking, poetry...whatever you like! ๐ŸŽจ

  1. How neat, capturing a picture of the bear cub! I forgot to go out and check out the night sky, and now I'm in bed and can't be bothered. -Jenn

  2. I talked my friend Sally into staying up so I can link. I am sorry I have missed your Sunday update and I may not be around for awhile to visit others, but I will at some point once my internet is finally back online. Sorry I'm on an iPad and this is not easy for me to uuse. Have a super weekend, dear.

  4. *LOL* My car looks mostly the same. I live in a rural area, but not really in the wild. I'm just too lazy to always clean it. Thursday ART Date was fun again, as I was allowed to play with my watercolors. Have a great day!

  5. Love the bear cub, the constellations and your art.
I am thrilled that you are taking time for yourselves. All work and no play...

  6. that is a very wild place you are living in, bears! hope they stay in the woods. You are having such lovely times and all your hard work is beginning to reap rewards, I hope you have many more magic moments like this, star gazing is something I love doing - to avoid aching neck, lie down on the ground with a pillow :)

  7. Bugs looks like he's melting in the heat Rain, I wouldn't know where to start with anything digital but i'm sure there are great ways to morph and distort.
Love your pencil drawing of your take on Van Gogh cleverly swiped now if i'd have thought of that I may have been able to adapt a past make and joined in quickly this busy week. Happy to read the baby Bear had his Mummy waiting for him. wouldn't like to have thought him out alone at night.
    Take care Hugs Tracey xx

  8. lol, I like your drawing but feel a bit sorry for bugs this week :)

Your sky shot is good enough for me to find Orion constellation. Perseus is a bit above and to the right of Orion. And, yes, he stars is one of my interests. :) You need a tripod or something to put the camera or you can lean to a tree trunk to steady yourself. :)
    Take care.

  9. Bugs Bunny made the right face on the subject * laughs *
I like your picture with the scribble looks great. I was too tired to exert myself and had something else in mind because I wanted to take my time and were mostly outside in the mornings and very late in the evenings I didn't feel like I was too tired with the warmth in the apartment.
Nice that you take the time to look at the area and your car experiences a lot with the dust.
the Perseid Meteor Shower is cool that Photo.
o how exciting to see a bear cub on the street, great!
Have a beautiful Days, hugs Elke

  10. Wow - that's your first bear sighting, right? Exciting! Love reading about your starry night. :)

  11. 2 wonderful examples of ‘swiped’ Rain. Very creative Bugs and your Starry Night interpretation is lovely. I love that you guys are settling in so nicely.

  12. Rain,

    Maybe your drawing of Bugs is how he feels first thing in the mornings (swiped out) before he has his carrot juice! :D I knew you'd have Bugs doing a sitting for you with today's prompt. Cool job! I like your Van Gogh sail boat design - nice! Thanks for including the tutorial for the key art how-to. I will try to watch it later but for now, I'll drag the link to my desktop. ;) Yep, I say you're going to need more of an off road vehicle that handle those back roads in your new locale. Your car is really dirty! lol Fabulous job capturing a starry night! We haven't made time in years to catch the Persoids meteor shower. We did that a few times with the kids when they were younger. Our best place to go is in the Smokys and that's just too far to go when the peak is during the week. What an extra special treat to see two bear cubs on your way home. I bet Mama isn't too far off. Thanks for hosting the artsy fun. I'm happy to be back to try my hand with your interesting challenges. Have a doodletastic day. Stay safe and be well, dear friend! {{hugs}}

  14. I love your art and the sky photo is gorgeous too. Love the little bear at the end too. I'm going to have to check out these art parties, I choose dabbling in art as my hobby for 2020 :)

  15. Very nice post. I know how busy the two of you are but you are right to get some time to see what is around you. I love this area that you live in. Have a great weekend.

  16. Nice original "selfie" of you both, Rain, showing your need-to-be-washed car. yes, a 4-wheel drive would definitely come in handy for you to explore and to haul items. We really like our 2 (old) Jeeps, 2007 Liberty and 2004 Grand Cherokee (yes, they are older). we didn't see any of the meteor shower as it was a bit overcast...maybe next time, if we are still around to try!

  17. Well, much to say today. Poor Bugs, he looks a little distraught :( Good that you can swipe him back into shape sometime soon. Of course, we both went for VanGogh. Who would have guessed that he would come to our common thinking minds :) You captured his swiping strokes better than I did and add a touch of color and you have an amazing repro, Ha! So from there we go to your dirty car. Love your shadows silhouetted on the back of the car ... quite artistic, I must say. Even the way the dirt lays on the window looks like art. Art must just follow you around :) Your sky is beautiful, too. We don't get a real starry night here. We are too close to too many suburban lights and even Chicago light so only the brightest stars show up and most likely they aren't even stars but planets (like I always see Venus and sometimes Mars). I miss seeing stars and trying to find constellations ... lucky you. I have seen the Perseid Meteor Shower when we lived on a lake and once before that in Michigan. It is an amazing show. Here they told us we had to get up at the crack of dawn to see it ... not happening :) How cool to have a wildlife preserve within your reach and love the little cub ... but I remember my father warning me never move toward a cub because the Mothers are VERY protective and what you don't want to do is meet face to face with a Mother bear :) We used to see them in Michigan and even saw a Mother and two cubs swimming across a river that we were fishing on in our boat ... fun, but a little scary. And, last but not least, thank you for posting the tutorial on 3D art. I watched it and I also watched two others. I think I got the gist, but will have to try it before I know for sure. I will let you know how it goes and if I succeed, I may post it ... or not. Depends on how well I do :) So have a good week, Rain and I will see you on a night scene next week ... Be safe, Be well ... Enjoy your wonderful life.

  18. what a fantastic swipe illustration of bugs rain!
    I love the sailboat sketch.
And how cool that you could see so many stars and the meteor showers. Sadly for me living in town there are too many trees, lights and buildings and I'd have to drive out to try and see anything.Another reason I love being at the beach- amazing starlit nights:) Happy PPF!

  19. I love your cartoons and sketches. The photo of the night sky is awesome. You don't have city lights that would interfere with the stars.

    ReplyDelete
  20. swipe... I had no idea. I like that sky... clear and starry.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oops, poor Bugs! I love the sailboat drawing - the varying patterns in all the patchwork sections of the sky look so great. Happy PPF!

  22. Morning Rain....how is it going. Love Bugs! I am just now getting back into art right now. I have been doing a little of my kindergarten paintings for classes. I teach a few classes here and there. Did one a few weeks ago and from that another one was booked. Since I have always been limited on space I always held my parties at the person's home, they invite their guest and I supply all they need. Hoping to be able to start doing that in my garage soon. But ...they way I do it is ask what the host wants to paint. I then find something on pinterest in their request. I give them a few to pick from and I allow them one to four. Once they pick what they want to paint I paint them up (this lady wanted four for her guest to pick from). Then I draw templates on poster board. My paintings are on display at the party and they paint from that. The templates is a great way that they can trace. Most have never painted anything but a wall before so that helps them. So with that I have painted seven in the past month. Fast, simple ones but it has me back in the groove. PAINT ON....

  23. Hello,

I love the Bugs Bunny image. Your sailboat sketch is great. Sometimes you just have to take a dirt road, especially to see nature. Beautiful capture of the night sky. Love the bear! Take care and enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend.

  27. Hi Kokopelli :) I'm glad you enjoyed the date! :) Yes, the car...it's SO filthy, I hosed it down yesterday!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks Elephant's Child :) I'd love ALL PLAY...but I have to be realistic! I'm so happy my camera caught the night sky!

  29. Hi Betty :)) This is the first time I saw bears here, but I'd heard they were around. We'll keep our eyes peeled, but normally they tend to shy away from humans. We have to stay away from Mamma bear of course! I thought about lying on the ground with a pillow to avoid the neck ache but I was too lazy to get up and go back inside lol! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi Tracey :)) Yes, Bugs and I are BOTH melting in the heat lol! I'm happy that the baby cub had his mom too, safer for everyone that way! I'm so glad you found time to join in! :)

  31. Thanks Monica :) You're right, and I do have TWO tripods...didn't think of getting them out that night, but I did the night after and got some good shots!! I'll post those tomorrow!!

  32. Hi Elke :) I hope you find time to join in next week! I'm glad to hear you're spending lots of time outside, we have to enjoy the summer! It was very cool seeing that bear!! :)

  33. Hi Becki :) Yes! first bear sighting! I've seen deer, bear, coyote, lynx, rabbits, raccoons, all sorts of birds...I'm just hoping to see moose now (from far away!)

  34. Thanks Christine :) I had a hard time with this week's theme! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks Cathy :) Ha! I think you might be right about Bugs!! I know I feel that way before my coffee! Too bad you can't see the night sky too well where you are but I'm happy to hear you've experienced the Perseids shower, it really is a wonder! I hope you enjoy the 3D art video!

  36. Hi Arleen :) I think what you said is how a lot of us feel!

  37. Thanks Martha :) I hope you find time to join in! It's a lot of fun! :)

  38. Thanks Nicole :) We finally found time to play...it's been a long time coming! :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks Dorothy :) Alex and I have always talked about trying to find a Grand Cherokee from the 1990's or early 2000's, seems they made cars better back then. I expect you'll be around for many years to see the meteor showers! :) I INTEND on living at least another 50 years!! :)

  40. Hi Andrea :)) We both Van Gogh'd it this week! Very cool! :) Thanks for your comment. After I read it, I looked at the dirty car photo again and I can see it in an artistic way! Nice! :) Thanks for noticing that! :) I'm glad you'll enjoy that 3D art tutorial, I hope you post what you do, even if it doesn't go with the week's theme! Maybe I should make that one of the themes for 2021!! I need to pay more attention to the night sky. I always look, but I don't particularly know what I'm looking at.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks Linda :) I'm sorry you couldn't make it to the beach this year! Having the night sky so present is truly a blessing and trust me, I'm grateful. For many years, I couldn't see anything but the Moon because the city lights drowned everything out!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi Gigi :) Thanks! I know how it is with the city lights. They even travel far into the suburbs to block out most of the beauty of the night sky!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks LeeAnna :) The sky here is beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks Alison :) Bugs will recover, he's such a ham, he doesn't really mind all of the poses he does for me! ;)

  45. Hi Pam! :) Oh that is REALLY neat what you're doing with the paintings! I want to see photos of those!!! Paint on!!! Thanks so much for the update!!! I'm so glad you're getting back into your art, it's so beautiful! :)

  46. Thanks Eileen :) I love taking the dirt road, that's for sure! It's always worth it!! Thanks for dropping by! :)

  47. I'm having trouble finding the stars and meteors in the night sky of your photo. But I like the one with the bear cub.

    be well... mae at maefood.blogspotc.om

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi Mae :) I didn't capture the meteors in the night sky, just a spattering of stars :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh, the neck aches from watching meteors. Been there, done that! LOL We still have so much smoke from fires. It's very sad to think of all the living things suffering. How lovely that you live close to a wildlife area, Rain. And it's wonderful that you're getting out and about. We're staying close to home. My big outing this week was to go to the dentist ~ LOL. It's all good, and even though I'm living a strange life right now, I'm grateful that Terry and I are healthy and hanging in there. All the best to you!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks Louise :)) I'm sure you've had the meteor-aches lol! We are under a no-burn order here in our county, but thankfully we've NOT had any forest fires. I hope you'll remain safe. I know what you mean about the critters, but I somehow think their instincts are better than ours and they'll find safety.

  56. Hi Rain. Bugs really does look 'swiped' :) The landscape on your cars window and the little cub running across the road are all the beauties we have missed, being cooped up in the house.
Hope you join Meraki this week.
