Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Swipe! I had a lot of trouble with this theme...and I was the one who came up with it lol...but Bugs Bunny said he'd work extra hard at his facial expression to inspire me! I imagined his face being digitally swiped and with some tasty encouragement (fresh carrot juice), he posed for this drawing! 😊
Friends, I am stunningly, prodigiously and uncommonly busy (not too busy to consult the thesaurus though lol!). Alex and I are trying to balance fixing up the house with taking some time to be out in nature. We explored the area just north of us - a dirt/sand road that leads to a protected wildlife area and bog. We saw lots of wildlife and had a picnic by the river. Look at our dirty car! It's a front-wheel drive SUV and definitely a "city" car...not really made for these kinds of excursions...our next car will be a 4-wheel drive Jeep or some kind of pickup truck, that's for sure!
Speaking of Starry Nights, we sat outside on Tuesday night to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower and we saw a dozen meteors. I held my camera up to the sky on "shutter" mode and just clicked away. I'm so happy I was able to capture a photo of the sky I see every night to share with you! I wish one of the photos had the meteors showing though! Oh my neck is aching still from looking up for an hour, but I feel so blessed to have seen the meteors and to be living in this area! I'll write more about our days out on Sunday's post!

ReplyDelete*LOL* My car looks mostly the same. I live in a rural area, but not really in the wild. I'm just too lazy to always clean it. Thursday ART Date was fun again, as I was allowed to play with my watercolors. Have a great day!

that is a very wild place you are living in, bears! hope they stay in the woods. You are having such lovely times and all your hard work is beginning to reap rewards, I hope you have many more magic moments like this, star gazing is something I love doing - to avoid aching neck, lie down on the ground with a pillow :)

ReplyDeleteLove your pencil drawing of your take on Van Gogh cleverly swiped now if i'd have thought of that I may have been able to adapt a past make and joined in quickly this busy week. Happy to read the baby Bear had his Mummy waiting for him. wouldn't like to have thought him out alone at night.

ReplyDeleteYour sky shot is good enough for me to find Orion constellation. Perseus is a bit above and to the right of Orion. And, yes, he stars is one of my interests. :) You need a tripod or something to put the camera or you can lean to a tree trunk to steady yourself. :)

ReplyDeleteI like your picture with the scribble looks great. I was too tired to exert myself and had something else in mind because I wanted to take my time and were mostly outside in the mornings and very late in the evenings I didn't feel like I was too tired with the warmth in the apartment.
Nice that you take the time to look at the area and your car experiences a lot with the dust.

Cool job! I like your Van Gogh sail boat design - nice! Thanks for including the tutorial for the key art how-to. I will try to watch it later but for now, I'll drag the link to my desktop. ;) Yep, I say you're going to need more of an off road vehicle that handle those back roads in your new locale. Your car is really dirty! lol Fabulous job capturing a starry night! We haven't made time in years to catch the Persoids meteor shower. We did that a few times with the kids when they were younger. Our best place to go is in the Smokys and that's just too far to go when the peak is during the week. What an extra special treat to see two bear cubs on your way home. I bet Mama isn't too far off. ReplyDeleteNice original "selfie" of you both, Rain, showing your need-to-be-washed car. yes, a 4-wheel drive would definitely come in handy for you to explore and to haul items. We really like our 2 (old) Jeeps, 2007 Liberty and 2004 Grand Cherokee (yes, they are older). we didn't see any of the meteor shower as it was a bit overcast...maybe next time, if we are still around to try!
ReplyDeleteWell, much to say today. Poor Bugs, he looks a little distraught :( Good that you can swipe him back into shape sometime soon. Of course, we both went for VanGogh. Who would have guessed that he would come to our common thinking minds :) You captured his swiping strokes better than I did and add a touch of color and you have an amazing repro, Ha! So from there we go to your dirty car. Love your shadows silhouetted on the back of the car ... quite artistic, I must say. Even the way the dirt lays on the window looks like art. Art must just follow you around :) Your sky is beautiful, too. We don't get a real starry night here. We are too close to too many suburban lights and even Chicago light so only the brightest stars show up and most likely they aren't even stars but planets (like I always see Venus and sometimes Mars). I miss seeing stars and trying to find constellations ... lucky you. I have seen the Perseid Meteor Shower when we lived on a lake and once before that in Michigan. It is an amazing show. Here they told us we had to get up at the crack of dawn to see it ... not happening :) How cool to have a wildlife preserve within your reach and love the little cub ... but I remember my father warning me never move toward a cub because the Mothers are VERY protective and what you don't want to do is meet face to face with a Mother bear :) We used to see them in Michigan and even saw a Mother and two cubs swimming across a river that we were fishing on in our boat ... fun, but a little scary. And, last but not least, thank you for posting the tutorial on 3D art. I watched it and I also watched two others. I think I got the gist, but will have to try it before I know for sure. I will let you know how it goes and if I succeed, I may post it ... or not. Depends on how well I do :) So have a good week, Rain and I will see you on a night scene next week ... And how cool that you could see so many stars and the meteor showers. Sadly for me living in town there are too many trees, lights and buildings and I'd have to drive out to try and see anything.Another reason I love being at the beach- amazing starlit nights:) Happy PPF!

Morning Rain....how is it going. Love Bugs! I am just now getting back into art right now. I have been doing a little of my kindergarten paintings for classes. I teach a few classes here and there. Did one a few weeks ago and from that another one was booked. Since I have always been limited on space I always held my parties at the person's home, they invite their guest and I supply all they need. Hoping to be able to start doing that in my garage soon. But ...they way I do it is ask what the host wants to paint. I then find something on pinterest in their request. I give them a few to pick from and I allow them one to four. Once they pick what they want to paint I paint them up (this lady wanted four for her guest to pick from). Then I draw templates on poster board. My paintings are on display at the party and they paint from that. The templates is a great way that they can trace. Most have never painted anything but a wall before so that helps them. So with that I have painted seven in the past month. Fast, simple ones but it has me back in the groove. PAINT ON....

ReplyDeleteHi Betty :)) This is the first time I saw bears here, but I'd heard they were around. We'll keep our eyes peeled, but normally they tend to shy away from humans. We have to stay away from Mamma bear of course! I thought about lying on the ground with a pillow to avoid the neck ache but I was too lazy to get up and go back inside lol! ;)

ReplyDeleteThanks Linda :) I'm sorry you couldn't make it to the beach this year! Having the night sky so present is truly a blessing and trust me, I'm grateful. For many years, I couldn't see anything but the Moon because the city lights drowned everything out!

ReplyDeleteOh, the neck aches from watching meteors. Been there, done that! LOL We still have so much smoke from fires. It's very sad to think of all the living things suffering. How lovely that you live close to a wildlife area, Rain. And it's wonderful that you're getting out and about. We're staying close to home. My big outing this week was to go to the dentist ~ LOL. It's all good, and even though I'm living a strange life right now, I'm grateful that Terry and I are healthy and hanging in there. All the best to you!
