Hello Friends! ππ
Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Dining. Wile E. Coyote won't let tough times get him down! He's fine dining whether he catches that Road Runner or not! π
Dining by candlelight is very romantic! π I took a class using pastel pencils and I love how this turned out! I didn't have the right paper though, so it's still a little too grainy for my liking.
The winter mornings are beautiful! Even though I have a full plate, sometimes I feel lonely in the winter. It's an odd feeling because I can barely find time to do everything I want/need to do...I think it has to do with a little cabin fever and maybe some Seasonal Affective Disorder - I get that every winter. The house hunting is tiring and currently unsatisfying. It's all the same stuff as last year...I'm hoping for that diamond in the rough to just pop up one day soon!
I also took a class using tinted charcoal pencils on a tan toned piece of sketch paper. My little bunny is dining on a flower. He's pretty content, but I'm not gaga over the tinted charcoal! I have a really tough time identifying values (lights and darks) in colour. I find it easier in black and white (it's much more obvious); but I won't give up! I need to step out of my comfort zone to try new things and learn more about art!!
Rhino Update: We're not quite done!! Next Wednesday night will be the final lesson. This class has taught me patience, which I think we all need to learn at some point in our lives! I've been working with 2 or 3 pencils, very slowly, building layers...and I really do love this wrinkly fella. I have a lot of detail work to finish on his back and side and then I need to "push the values"...which means apply light and dark for highlights and shading. He's been pretty patient considering his temperament, I just have to feed him grass and apples and he's agreed to keep modeling for me! π
That's all for now folks, thanks for popping in! But please check out the link widget below to see more Dining artwork!
I'm also linking up with Paint Party Friday tomorrow!

You know what's a nice feeling? Looking over and seeing my loving hound dog Jack's face! I love the way he looks at me! ππΆπ I feel his love!

Gorgeous art this week you are learning so much with all your classes. Thanks for hosting. Hope you find a house that will work for you guys.
ReplyDeleteI thought your candles were a photograph.
ReplyDeleteI am so blown away by both your very obvious talent and your willingness to learn, to grow.
I am really look forward to seeing your finished rhino too.
Good luck with the house hunt. It can be very dispiriting - until the 'right' house materialises.
the bunny is fun and wonderful drawn like the other rabbit. You will also find out about the light and darkness when I was in a creative workshop for years, from then on I practiced again and again and it doesn't have to be perfect. It is your way of painting and drawing that makes every picture. Your personal handwriting! Wonderful the candlelight!
ReplyDeleteYour rhino is fabulous, great drawn I love it.. Being patient is also an art and then doing it in such a way that everything to your satisfaction is your rhino. The development is already great .. this will be a work of art dear rain!
I was happy to join you again.
Hugs Elke
Aaaawwww, your Jack is just the cutest being ever, love how he is gazing at you - that's love! Beautiful art, your pastel and charcoal works are lovely, and the Rhino is magnificent. Hope you soon have success with house hunting! Have a great day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHi Rain. my favorite today is your candles. The warmth and colors looks almost real to me. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful candles! :)
ReplyDeleteRain,
ReplyDeleteThe dismal days of winter affect us all a little or a lot. I have moments but not bad like years ago. I wonder if the hormone pellets I get help with this? Mood swings are affected by hormones so I wouldn't be surprised to learn this is added benefit I hadn't figured on. Anyhow, your art is beatiful. I love the glowing candles! Why didn't I think of that? I remember eons ago how I liked sketching candles. In fact, I often work candles into my illustrations when possible. Your bunny looks so sweet. I did a pencil drawing of a rabbit the first year (2017) I started my art journey. We have a bunny that visits our yard frequently. The rhino is looking fabulous. You're doing very well and I can't see the final step. Keep up the good work! I hear you on the house hunting front. It's frustrating and unproductive at times but like you I know it's out there waiting for us. Here's to 2020 being the year we find our dream homes! ;) Thanks for hosting the artsy fun, my dear!
I love your bunny and his bright little eyes! And of course, your magnificent rhino!
ReplyDeletewow!that rhino just knocks your socks off. it is awesome! you sure are getting your monies worth out of those lessons! i love jack!
ReplyDeleteMy two favourites: the candles and the rhino! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, Jack. He is sooooooo darn cute!
Beautiful art, as usual. I know what you mean about house hunting. But, once you buy a house, it is such a joy to fix it up and make it your own. Have fun with it. I loved the entire experience.
ReplyDeleteMy dear, you have the patience of a saint and your not quite finished Rhino is exquisite. I can't imagine what more you could do to him, but I will patiently wait to see :) Love your rabbit, your beautiful candles( you are too picky ... they are perfect as is) and Wile E ... what a hoot! I love your art, you are fun and talented. And I have to comment on your icy eyelashes ... do you put something on your face to protect your skin. I am surprised you don't get frost bite. I don't think we have ever been so cold here that my eyelashes froze, but I do put vaseline on my cheeks when I go out with Izzi on freezing days. And I understand those winter blues ... gray skies day in and day out is made for depression. Keep busy and focus on the loving looks of your pup and spring will come sooner than you think :)

Hi Rain, and let me tell you, those candles are stunning! They look real, and I love how you created a contrast at the bottom...looks like a mountain range... perfect! How’s the homestead going? Jack is a real love, isn’t he! Get a terrific weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour Jack is adorable. Wow, stunning art work. I love the Rhino, he is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing Jack Jack. What a beautiful morning sky among the trees. That's a great pastel sketch of the candles.
ReplyDeleteI am just in awe of your artwork, Rain. Each picture awed me more than the one before. Since I started out truly awed by the candles, that's really saying something!
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful post. The candles are amazing and I do like dining by candle light. Your sweet Jack takes over though.
ReplyDeleteI love your art! The candles and the bunny are especially dear.
ReplyDeleteGreat work!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Rain, your art is gorgeous. I loved the candles and also the bunny especially. Happy Paint Party Friday xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine :)) I have learned a lot about art so far, but there's so much more!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elephant's Child :)) I hope that right house materializes! We've been looking for over a year now! The more I look at the candles, the more real they look to me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elke :)) I like how you put that "your personal handwriting"! It's true that it doesn't have to be perfect. I know some day it will just click with me after I do a lot of practicing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie :)) I LOVE the look Jack gives me in that photo, it's a look I see daily and it warms my heart! :) Love gaze!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Monica :)) I have the candle art hanging up in a dark hallway and sometimes I look over and think that it looks like real candles!
ReplyDeleteThank you Laurie and YAY!!! You can see!! :))) I was SO happy to read your comment!! And you're right, we are getting blasted with snow!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sandi :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy :)) You're right about the hormones and that could be contributing to these winter blues. I'm an outdoors person and when I can't go out because of weather, I feel trapped. I have the beautiful woods all around me but the trails are blocked by too much snow. I really long for the days when I can walk freely in the woods with all three of the dogs! Oh I hope 2020 will be the year we both find our homes!!! I started painting in 2013, drawing in 2018, but I feel like this year is the real start of my art journey! It's a lot of fun and it's helping me through the winter!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Debra :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Joyce :)) I appreciate your comment! I'm definitely trying to get my money's worth by taking lots of classes!! I love the variety too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Martha :)) Jack reminds me every day of unconditional love and he definitely gets lots of that back!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Gigi :)) I'm trying not to get frustrated at this point in the house hunting! I can't wait to have a place of my own finally!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Andrea :)) I'm not quite sure what is left with my rhino either, but I think I will work on lights and darks and see how I can make him seem to have more depth in the wrinkles and curves. I'm glad you liked my coyote, poor thing is eating a tin can lol...Vaseline is a good idea...I usually put cold cream (I use Olay) before I go out for added protection. When it's really windy I have to wrap myself up with scarves too. If Charlie didn't have energy overload, I would probably stay home most of those really frigid mornings!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Dino :)) I like that you pointed out the contrast at the bottom! The homestead hunt is slow...but I remember the same last year, it usually picks up in March. People seem to start putting their properties up for sale in early spring.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anesha :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Stefanie :)) The mountain skies here are just so picturesque, you wouldn't know how cold it was from seeing those lovely skies!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Becki :)) I do feel a lot of pride when I look at how I'm progressing with my art. I'm so glad you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole :)) I love candlelight too, I usually have a candle on all of the time, day or night! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Lisabella :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue :)) The more I look at my little bunny, the more I like it! I'm not giving up on those tinted pastels yet, I just need to figure out the lights and darks when I work with colour!!
ReplyDeleteYet again Rain you are blowing me away with your art - as you do with your cheese!!!!! I think the Rhino is magnificent (and having been close to real thing in Africa I must say they are amazing creatures!) and am looking forward to seeing him completed. The bunny is so cute - will be a lovely part of your Easter decor.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping so much your house hunting picks up when the weather improves - you really deserve to find that perfect place. My fingers are crossed this will be the year.
Stay warm.
Hugs - Mary
Wonderful artworks! The candles are my favourite. Haven't tried pastels.
ReplyDeleteThe morning picture is beautiful. Don't you feel like painting in watercolour? ☺
Fantastic arts! The bunny's eyes are so alive , the candles look so real, beautiful! And your Jack is so adorable! They do see you with loving eyes, my dog does that too!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous post ~ wonderful artwork and photographs ~ love your doggie and also the bunny drawing ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteHappy Moments to You,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Your candle and bunny as well as the rhino are gorgeous photos, Rain.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF ❤️ and weekend ππ°π
well it's been too long since I've been around blog world much. First off your first sketch is so so creative - I love it. The rabbit - wonderful!! and the rhino - looks good too. I remember learning to lay down layers when I would take tutorials over at Wet Canvas (and if you haven't discovered this site you might like it!) I would spend much time learning how to do this especially when I would do portraits because I wanted them to look like i "painted" them so it was awesome to hang out there. You are so creative in every way. I think I get seasonal depression also when I am stuck in the house for over three to four days at a time because of wind or snow. Even if i can't get out walking I finally just decide to take a drive through the various mountain towns just to cheer me up. I love Jack's face. so cute. House Hunting - wow...i can imagine and wow you will know it when you see it - that's how it was with my third house and forever kind of house until we had to sale and retired elsewhere. we were there 30 years and raised a bundle of kids and then started with the grandkids there. You WILL find what you are looking for because the "intent" is there.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I just want to cuddle up with darling jack and give him a big squeeze <3! Your varied art is gorgeous- love the beautiful glow of the candles, and your bunny is adorable! Enjoy the weekend, and happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Mary :)) I think it's very neat that you've seen such wildlife in person! Thanks for crossing your fingers for me! :))
ReplyDeleteYes Tarang! :) I should paint that photo in watercolour! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lin :) Our dogs are just bundles of love aren't they? We are so blessed to have them in our lives! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Carol :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Sirkkis and Happy PPF to you too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy :)) And thanks for the Wet Canvas link. I checked it out. It would be a neat place to lose myself and learn from others! I'm always up for that. The layering is something I'm working on. When I started drawing and painting, I just plopped all pigment down hard and fast lol...now I'm learning patience and it makes the final piece that much nicer. You can believe my intent is there for the house, I project that out daily to the Universe!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda :)) But Jack is all mine lol! :)
ReplyDeleteI love Jack..he is so adorable. I know what you mean about seeing the love in there face. I see it with Dakota. Chey and Lily not so much..haha. Love the art. Hoping you are enjoying your art classes. I bet you are. BURRR the thoughts of you being snowed in makes me cold. We had about an inch this morning but it took me forever to get up and get out just cause I hated the thoughts of getting out in the cold. So funny, we had a 1/2 inch on Nov 12, never have it that early. Thought it would be a wicked winter, NOT! We have had a wet winter but not from snow. And not that many really cold days. 70 degrees earlier in the week and then snow this morning and cold. Right after it says that spring will be early. CRAZY>
ReplyDeleteI class every meal as fine dining, as I'm the cook and washer up... no one dares to argue hee hee!! Another great theme Rain, sorry i've not had chance to meet up it's been a very busy week with time needed to be spent elsewhere. Your hare is beautiful and the Rhino is coming along a treat, I just wish I could get up close to take a real peep at your attention to detail, something I love and adore. He's a well pampered boy..to have so much love and attention.
ReplyDeleteSending positive vibes your way for that diamond in the rough.. it's just waiting to shine your way. Hugs Tracey xx
Hi Pam :)) Jack is very adorable...I can't get enough of him :)) Yes! I am definitely enjoying the art classes A LOT. I've added even more, I'm taking classes pretty much every day, a few times a day! There are mornings when I hear the wind howling...and I don't want to get out of bed lol!!
ReplyDeleteHi Tracey :)) I do most of the cooking too! And I agree, all of my meals are fine dining lol! I loved what you said...There are so many challenges and blog hops I would love to participate in but I can't find time for them! :) The Rhino is really full of so much detail, especially his "scales". I love this drawing and it's the first time I've used graphite. Thanks so much :))
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, Rain :D

Your rhino is amazing. I'm having fun watching its "growth." I don't know if I would have your patience, Rain! Thanks for sharing the sweet photo of Jack!
