Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Jack O' Lanterns. What did you create this week? Remember, if you want to link your blog post, you have until Sunday night now to join in! π Bugs Bunny loves to dress up as Cinder-Rabbit. π I'd love to ride around town, all dolled up in a horse-driven pumpkin carriage!! I often use the phrase "I'm about to turn into a pumpkin" when I'm exhausted...and yes, this usually happens WELL before my clock strikes twelve! I drew this with Sharpies and Prismacolor Pencils.
I'm also linking up with Paint Party Friday tomorrow!
Here's my watercolour Jack O' Lantern scarecrow. Three years ago I brought this painting to life on my porch - I painted my watercolour from that photo. If this thing doesn't scare the crows, it definitely would scare me if I bumped into it on a dark night in a corn field! Have I ever mentioned that I once got caught alone in a corn maze at sundown? Yeah, it happened, and I did run into a few very creepy scarecrows before I got out!! It was a harrowing experience!! π²
Here's my acrylic painting of a Day of the Dead Jack O' Lantern. I love the brilliant colours on this one!

I have two nice pumpkins ready for carving! I have some fun ideas for my Jack O' Lanterns this year! Halloween is right around the corner, I can't wait! Do you celebrate Halloween, Samhain and/or The Day Of The Dead? I have some fun food planned, lots of sweets and a bunch of neat paintings! Alex and I are going to watch the latest Halloween movie too - in the dark of course!!
On Sunday night I made a Loaded Nacho Plate with my Homemade Sour Cream. Delicious! I've been busy this week catching up on housecleaning and cleaning up the garden and yard - preparing for winter! I harvested the last of my green onions and brought in my chives and mint plant. Everything else is in the compost heap!
The hands are at it again... |
My paper machΓ© skeleton hands won't stay put! They found their way out to the compost pile and scared the bejeebers out of me!! I wonder what they have planned for Halloween! π

ReplyDeleteThose hands would scare the bejeezus out of me.
ReplyDeleteThe only artsy thing I've been working on has been all of my planners with lots and lots of stickers. You already know that my drawing is all about stickmen.(lol) I absolutely adore your paintings and art projects. You're so talented! Any of those nachos left, please?(lol) Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteThe loaded nacho plate looks good. Yum.
ReplyDeleteAll the jack-o-lanterns were great to see, Rain. The day of the dead one was my favorite here and really didn’t look too scary maybe because of the colors. Now, those creepy hands in the compost pile are another story and the shrunken heads were as well. The nachos plate looked so goodπ
ReplyDeleteRain,
ReplyDeleteCinderella's pumpkin carriage is orangtastic! I didn't think of this as a possibility but I should have with two daughters and now a granddaughter who I occasionally call my little pumpkin or my littlest princess. She just turned 1 year old this week, too. They grow so fast, like weeds! Your jack-o-lantern is super spooky! We never carved scary jack-o-lanterns nor did we ever let the kids dress up creepy. I always felt there was so much real scary stuff in the world and I never wanted that to touch my kids but try as I did to protect them they found their way into the think of some truly horrifying situations. While they are beginning to settle down some, they are always in my prayers. Your paper mache hands are very creepy and what fun you have with them! Thanks for hosting the weekly artsy fun. I'm happy to know you're feeling more like yourself again. The nachos look good!
Rain, your artwork is awesome! It's always so eye-catching. So much fun at your place.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your jack o lanterns today, scary post! Never thought of making homemade sour cream, the food looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteAnd happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteOooh... some frightful things here! I'm thinking that jack-o-lantern scarecrow on your front porch is possibly heart stopping for some unsuspecting soul. I would sure run screaming from it if I encountered it.
ReplyDeleteYou are so good at this!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a sketch this week. Maybe this afternoon. I'm not really feeling well. We shall see.
Well Rain... I managed to spit my coffee on you paper hands story!!! LOL!!! Your food looks scromchous!!! It’s that reach through the screen wish again...haha!
ReplyDeleteAlways a pleasure to see your skeleton hands! And I love all your JOL art!
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie :) Enjoy your weekend too!
ReplyDeleteHa Leanna...they have a mind of their own! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks RO :) Stick figures are underrated! :) Your planners are definitely a work of art. Oh lol..the nachos, they were darn good!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristina :) Yes, they were amazing! It was a nice change from just the usual nacho plate.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dorothy :) The hands just do as they please...I have no control over them :) I liked painting the Day of the Dead Jack O' Lantern...it was fun to do something different like that!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy :) I love your word inventions lol orangetastic!! I love the creepy, scary nature of Halloween, but I do agree that the real world is pretty scary on its own. I think I'm definitely back to what I consider "normal" lol...I have so many fun things planned for the next week! I love this time of year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Martha :) I'm really having a lot of fun with Halloween despite the setbacks of 2019! One giant leap ahead. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine :) Happy PPF!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Becki :) I got the idea for the scarecrow from the Tim Burton movie Sleepy Hollow. There was a scene where one of the townsfolk is walking blindly through a corn field and just stumbles upon it, always scared me so I wanted to recreate it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn :) I hope you feel better enough to sketch a little! Do something Halloweenie! :)
ReplyDeleteHa Dino :) lol...spitting coffee at the screen is a compliment hee hee!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra :) The hands are up to something, I just know it...
ReplyDeleteI bet Bugs had no idea, until he met you, that life was soooo good. A Cinder-Rabbit! What kid wouldn't pay to be in his' shoes :) And, Scarecrows were meant to scare birds, not people ... Your Scarecrow has outdone himself, an overachiever of sorts :) Day of THe Dead is popular around here for many reasons including how colorful and fun it's characters are. Well represented by you. Your hands in the compost look so real that someone might explore the digs for the rest of the body ... but not me. I will just cut and run, Ha! Good times as always, Rain ...
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From The Sol
Thanks Andrea :) Bugs does have it good doesn't he? Lol...That made me laugh. Oh yes, my scarecrow is an overachiever and I think he's influencing those hands to play naughty pranks!
ReplyDeleteLove your art.
ReplyDeleteLove your food.
Love your post.
Enjoy the rest of Thursday and have a wonderful Friday.
All the best Jan
Thanks so much Jan :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurie :) Oh a haunted gingerbread house!!! That's such a fun idea. I wanted to do that for a few years now but never found the time. Party hardy for sure! :)))
ReplyDeleteRain, have you ever done a Headless Horseman Watercolor? The Sleepy Hollow movie (1999) was a really good one.
ReplyDeleteHi TB :) I watch that Sleepy Hollow version so often, I love it! Christopher Walken is so good as the horseman! I did an acrylic Headless Horseman a few years back, I'd love to do one with that watercolour layering technique I learned, thanks for the suggestion!
ReplyDeleteOh absolutely LOVED this carriage dear Rain :)

ReplyDeleteThis is my first time entering. This looks like a LOT of fun. :D
ReplyDeleteI also adore your sense of humor! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Baili :)) Wouldn't it be nice to ride around in that carriage? ;) Oh yes, getting back to myself feels so good. I wasn't doing well for a few months because of that tooth pain! I feel alive again with the art and the food! I'm even making more cheese!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mel :) I had fun with Cinderella this week! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie :) Happy PPF!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sis :) Yeah, the heads...they actually rotted so I had to toss them out, but I'm so glad I kept a photo! That's a real shame about your pumpkins! Bad year for all of us I think...
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda :) I'm telling you, the hands have a mind of their own, I never know what they'll be up to! ;) Enjoy your weekend too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Gillena :) I found the idea of the shrunken heads on Martha Stewart's website. I finally did them and they turned out so well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sirkkis :) We wine lovers must stick together!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Joyce :) The nachos were so delicious, I could eat them every day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy :) Yeah...the maze was terrifying...and it wasn't when I was a kid either! It was in 2010. I arrived a little later than expected and was rushing to get back as the dusk was setting in, very scary!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth :) And I'm so glad to see your entry! I hope you join in every week! :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic Halloween creations and yummy looking food ^_^
ReplyDeleteHappy Day to You,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Thank you Carol :) Enjoy your weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I look forward to your Bugs Bunny cartoon every week! Your pumpkins are beautiful. I must pick one up to carve this year. I'm a little squeamish about scooping out all the gunk though. I really miss all my school kiddos at this time of year ~ Although now they've eliminated all the Halloween fun from schools in our district t. :( I'm sure that you will make Halloween special for you and Alex! enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Louise :) I love Bugs!!! I think the whole gang will be trick or treating next Thursday!! :) I hate the inner gunk of the pumpkins too...I always wear gloves when I'm scooping the "innards" out! Halloween will be a lot of fun!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love a pumpkin carriage like that. Great hands too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda :) The carriage is pretty fancy! :)
ReplyDeletelol. cool, cirderella a´la halloween :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Monica :))

ReplyDeleteAAAAaiiiieiieeeEEEEK! That's me screaming about the hands...and the apple heads! Did people really used to do that? I mean, do they shrink? I suppose I could Google, but kinda don't wanna... π³
Thanks Stacy :) The hands are always freaking me out lol!
ReplyDeleteLol Sandi, I don't want to know either! I wonder if they shrink! :)
