It's been a grueling and emotional month...things didn't pan out for many properties. Out of thousands I checked out online, there were only three that met my needs over the last 6 months. The first one was just too much work; the second one I got out-bidded; the third...well the listing agent didn't disclose obvious problems with the structure of the house.
Money and time and energy wasted....so I had to make the phone call of shame and ask my landlord to reneg on my lease cancellation and let me renew for another year. He was fine with it, but I felt kind of like a failure.
But...I've shed my tears and shook my fist in anger at whomever would pay attention! Now I'm ready to move forward with baby steps.
So there we go...renting still at age 51. Such is life. I will recover! I'm trying to think of the positive now. I'll plant some kind of garden, I'll be able to walk the dogs in the woods that I love, I'll take my bike to the bike path and enjoy rides a few times a week, I'll even look out for a used kayak to enjoy in the nearby lake.
I'll get back to my painting and drawing. I'll somehow find it in me to start cooking and baking again. I'll get back to blogging and reading blogs again.
I'm healthy, Alex is healthy, the six furballs are healthy, we're not completely broke...things will be just fine!
Now if only the snow would melt...
❤️ Love You All!!!❤️
Renting isn't so bad. At least you don't have to pay for fixing things!
ReplyDeleteNo time is wasted...well, maybe some is..ha ha... but this is a hunt, an adventure. Isn't it fun? Uh...ok...maybe not. ;-)
Enjoy your day. Count your blessings. Have some chocolate.
Rain - I am super sorry to hear that. Having been down this road a couple of times, I know how frustrating it can feel. The "good" news (if there is good news to be had) is that the process is not a total waste; next time you know more (and more importantly, know the right questions to ask) to make your search go smoother.
ReplyDeletechin up rain! i just know your home is out there waiting for you to find it. maybe enjoy your last year renting!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Rain, that nothing panned out for you and Alex. I know how much work it is to look for property and how it sucks when you don't get the bid. I assume your lease is a year long; you'll get a breather and can regroup during that time. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that didn't work out for you! Keeping fingers crossed ! :)
ReplyDeleteIt will melt soon. So sorry things didn't pan out so far.
ReplyDeleteHello Rain, and that little bump in the homestead search will smooth out soon. I am sure when you ground yourself in mother earth and grow some wonderful food, that your heart will feel better. I am sorry that you weren't given the truth...that really sucks. I will be sending some really positive thoughts up to you and we will all be praying for the healing of your disappointment.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry it didn't work out for you - yet. The time is not quite right and when it is - it WILL happen. Don't give up on your dreams.
ReplyDeleteI understand your frustration as buying a house is seldom easy and disappointment is often part of the process. The good thing is that you didn’t buy a house that was not structurally stable. That could have left you with a money pit that could cause you deep financial problems. You will find a home eventually and it will be the right one. Just look at these past few months as a learning experience. It wasn’t wasted time.
ReplyDeletesounds like you have some beautiful surroundings, kayak on a lake is adventurous. It must be hard not having the security and permanence an owned home can bring, I remember that feeling of not knowing 'whats round the corner' only too well. Will look forward to seeing your paintings.
ReplyDeleteI hate that you had to go through so much work and frustration over this entire period, and I know it had to be rough. I like renting because I don't have to worry about maintenance and other stuff that the landlord is responsible for(lol) I've grown to love the food, animals and scenery of where you live, and looking forward to more of the same. You have an entire year to find out if this is the perfect place to stay, or if there is a perfect place somewhere else. We love you and your blog! Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteWell, rats. But as you listed, there are still many positives to living where you are. Sometimes places show up when you least expect them. I am hoping your snow melts, too! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThe right property just hasn't come along yet, that's all! Chin up, you'll get there when the time is right.
ReplyDeleteI’m sorry it didn’t work out but you just never know what’s around the corner, things can change on a dime! You have a good life and a wonderful optimistic approach to life, a man you love who loves you and whom you love and you will be just fine. Happy spring Rain, life goes on, cheers to your next adventure!
ReplyDeleteIf nothing else, it was a learning experience. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteChin up, my dear. I was a renter until I was in my early 50s, too. It took months and dozens of properties until I found the Little Lucky (which, I might add, did not meet all my original criteria, but...) You are in no way a failure, as looking for and finding the right place involves so many factors that are out of your control. You and Alex will find The Place - no doubt about it. xo
ReplyDeleteYou are not a failure. You are picky and smart and dont jump on a property just because you are under pressure. This is a life commitment and you are doing the right thing.
ReplyDeleteI am proud of you !!! And I do believe it is out there ... the perfect spot for you and Alex.
What if you find a house in September, do you think your landlord will let you out of the lease ? You will have a beautiful summer !! You can relax now, no more time pressure. I can just immagine how disapointed u were. I was disapointed for u when I heard the news from you ... I am glad you shared your tears and shook it off ... and now go back to your happiness !!! The house and property will come your way and it will be much better than everything you have seen so far. Much love send your way ❤❤
Awwww Rain, so sorry it is taking so long to find your "place", but you will. Just a little more patience. You know, no place is perfect to begin with...you are the one to make it that way. You would not believe what we started out with 30 years ago here, but now it is exactly like we want it. I am rooting for you.
ReplyDeleteDear Rain... I know you're discouraged, but I think you'll find something you both like if you keep looking. Honestly, though... Dh and I having turned 65 and 60 (respectively) this year and getting into the mindset of downsizing, renting doesn't sound bad. I rather like the idea of letting someone else take care of things when they break. I hope your next home is more than you ever hoped for!
ReplyDeleteawww, so sorry things didn't work out. At times like this I always find comfort in the old saying that there is a reason for everything, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time. You can spend unrushed time researching properties over the next year. Lisa
ReplyDeleteOne day you might look back and be so happy you didn't get any of these properties! The right one will come along. Just wait and see :) It's really hard to be patient but the right place will present itself!
ReplyDeleteyou'll get there! Now you have another year to keep looking!
ReplyDeleteRain,
ReplyDeleteSpring is comin'! You're not a failure!! Things will work out for you when the time is right. I love how you're throwing yourself back into the things you love! It's best to focus on the now. Everything will fall into place. ;)
