Old Man Winter

Hi Everyone :)

There was no Scribble Picnic this past Wednesday, but I thought I'd do my own solo-picnic anyway. I decided to choose the very timely theme of "Old Man Winter". The above is a watercolour.

Here is a very tired Old Man Winter done with Prismacolor pencils. I think he needs a long nap!

And just for fun, my Snowman Scream in pastels. :) I was looking through my old photos, I used to take lots of photos of trees, I thought this one kind of looked like Edvard Munch's The Scream:

Can you see it? Kind of cool huh? For many years, I walked the woods, looking for trees that were expressive, taking photos and writing little stories about them. I'd love to start doing that again!

This is one of the many snowmobile trails nearby. I started to walk through, but I couldn't get very far. Despite the frosty look, it's "sinky" snow and it was quite a struggle pulling out of knee deep snow every step!

The lake is still covered with ice. I saw that temperatures will be above zero from now on during the days, hooray! I just hope we don't have a May snowstorm like last year!!

Mr. Jack. :) Like new. One week to go before he can run around freely again. We should be finding out on Sunday when Stella and Pavlov's owner is coming to pick them up. I got another vague email last night, Alex wrote back that we are not interested in any more delays and that Sunday he must give us a precise plan. We have no leverage over this guy, we can only hope he does the right thing.

By the way...I looked it up, as long as the dogs have their bill of health, updated vaccinations and complete paperwork, there is no quarantine in Morocco for cats and dogs. That is a wee bit of good news...Anyway, wish us luck!

  2. Loving the blues in your art pieces...and I do see The Scream in that tree, amazing. Glad Mr Jack is almost better.

  3. Do you think it would do any good, to take a drawing of 'Old Man Winter" outside. Make a teeny fire. Wish him farewell, and drop the drawing in the teeny fire? Don't some banishing rituals do that?

Like writing down, things we wish to drop from our lives, and release them, and drop them in a fire?

Don't know about it working, but..... It might feel good. :-))))) -grin-

  4. Yes, that tree does look like the Scream!

And the frozen lake photo is lovely.

    Hooray for Jack!!!!

Guess I asked this before, and you may have answered it.. But. Didn't it help before, to contact this deadbeat's mother? And tell her that you have to have his dogs out of your home, by a certain date? Didn't she have some effect on him, before?

Another aspect of this is, you can't be bullied into keeping them, by him, and some "story," about their *possible* terrible life, where ever he is going. I'd not put it past him, to try to weasel out of picking them up!

Face it. It's your health, or the dogs. Your own dogs, are fine. His too, are not. You really have to draw a line somewhere. It is YOUR life, on the line. YOUR life. Your hopes. Your accomplishments, so far.

    OK, I'll end.

    Hugs...

  5. Love the tree!! It does look like The Scream!! :) Trees are their own entities.

Not long now Jack! I bet he is going to be so very happy!

I am wishing for you lots of melty snow and no more winter! And good news via the S&P front as well.

  6. Oh my...with the winter you guys have, the months and the cold and amount of snow....I could not handle it. Cold is worse on my Fibro but heat drains me more. With that cold, I would never be able to move! I am glad Jack is getting better. Loving that tree..I see eyes, nose and a mouth. Pretty cool.

  9. I don't want to look at old man winter any more, it was cold and windy at work today and it was hard to be outside mainly because of the cold wind. I like the snowman, it is a scream!

  10. Hey, Rain! I love all your winter artwork. And that tree is really awesome. It must be lovely to walk around in that area. I bet it's very peaceful (when the noisy tourists aren't around!). I'm looking forward to the photos you'll share this spring...when it gets here!

Ah, that dog guy...sigh... I hope, dear friend, that everything goes well. I'm an email away if you need a friendly ear. Or shoulder :)

  11. Your winter art is great! I especially like Snowman Scream. That's really cool. Good news about Mr. Jack. I bet he'll be really excited when he's free to bounce off the walls :)

  12. I so hope that Jack's owner comes and takes Jack back and that he takes good care of him. How could anyone resist his sweet face. We had a lovely day here yesterday and hoping for more for me and you too. Nancy

  14. Hi Wisps of Words :) I like your ritual idea!!! But I may not have to do it after all, it's going up to 15 today! Woo hoo!!! :) I'm so relieved that Jack is doing better...just 6 days to go, he's going a bit stir crazy! I answered my comments late last time, but no we won't contact his mother because the guy is in his late 30's. It's not his mom's problem at this point, plus we don't even know how to reach her. We'll find out tomorrow what's going on, but my boyfriend did get a message from him that no matter what, either his friend or he himself will be here latest first week of May to pick up the dogs. The phone call tomorrow should confirm the details. We've done enough...too much actually!

  15. Hi Pam :) You wouldn't fare well in these winters...I don't have Fibro, but I don't fare well either. It's just way too cold for me lately, but there is hope, spring seems to be on its way finally! My Old Man Winter art may have made Mr. Winter realize he needs to rest! :)

  16. Hi Laurie :) Thank you :) I love seeing faces in trees...it's a lot of fun to get out in the woods and look for them!

  17. Thanks Gill :) I'm just as sick of it as you are...the wind lately is so biting here too.

  18. Hi Martha :) Thank you so much! I'm just waiting very anxiously for the details during tomorrow's phone call. But Alex did get a message from him saying that no matter what, either he himself or one of his friends will be here latest first week of May to pick up the dogs. All we can do is believe him at this point. The art was fun to do! And I think it worked to get Old Man Winter a little more tired...he needs to sleep at least a good 6-8 months!!!

  19. Thanks Alex :) Oh my gosh Jack is already bouncing off the walls...it's hard to watch, he really needs to run around! I feel like I need to as well, just to release the stress lol!

  20. Hi Nancy :) I think spring is here too! Oh, just to let you know, it's Stella and Pavlov whose owner is waffling about taking them back. Jack is my main man, I won't ever give him up! :)

  21. Thanks Dianna :) Melty snow is what I want...but I hope it's not too quick...remember the muddy quick sand of a driveway I have??? We'll be marooned here until the melt off settles into the ground!!! I love trees, you are so right, they are their own entities...I have a favourite one in the woods that I hug every day when I go for walks...I can't wait to get out there again!! :)

  22. I think Jack looks like he's been on a long camping out trip. Such a warm, cozy, clean, comfortable "tent" he's been staying in!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love your artwork and your photos, Rain. Old Man Winter should be truly tired this year and ready for a long warm nap. Jack looks like such a sweetheart.

  24. LOL Mama Pea...he does have a nice tent...what do they call it? Glamping? :)

  25. Thanks Becki :) I'm hoping Old Man Winter realizes he's outstayed his welcome this winter! He's like that friend who doesn't get the hint at 1am when all you're doing is tidying up, doing dishes, yawning and saying "Okay then..." lol!

  28. Good grief, you still have more than enough winter! Made for some really creative ideas for your solo picnic, however. Good news about Jack! I hope Stella and Pavlov can be reunited with their owners soon.

  29. Thanks Leigh :) I'm hoping to get a solid update today about S&P. I'm very relieved that Jack is better!!! :) Yeah...too much snow, but it feels warmer today so I'm very grateful! :)

  33. Hi RO :) Thank you :) Well, luckily the temperatures are rising and I'm hoping to see the ground VERY soon!!! :)

  34. Glad Jack is doing well. How deceptive that snow trail looks. I wouldn't be able to tell you would be stepping in knee deep. I like how you combined all of those shades of blue in Old Man Winter.

  36. Thanks Stefanie :) The drawing was fun to make, reminded me a bit of Gandalf from Lord of the Rings lol...yeah, that snow is very deceptive. I walked out yesterday in the yard and was hip-deep in snow in a second...I had to roll myself out, it was a challenge! It's like that every spring though.

  37. Thanks Baili :) I know it's easy for me to say but I would LOVE to trade weather with you lol...though I think your summers are WAY too hot for me :) Jack is 100% as I type this! I'm so happy :)

  39. Thanks Sam :)) I really am enjoying the art, though lately I haven't found too much time for it...you know how it is when spring arrives! Well, spring is nearly here, it's still really cold out there and the snow hasn't melted completely yet, but I have hope!!! :)
