Dogs And A New Hat!

Jack's incarceration is over! He's been released from the cage thankfully. He's completely back to normal and enjoyed a day on the porch yesterday in the sunshine! He's careful not to mingle too much with the four big dogs which makes us think he really did get stepped on a month ago.

Stella and Pavlov will be leaving us either May 13th or the morning of May 14th - confirmed. Yay and sigh... :)

Finally the snow is melting and we were able to put the big dogs out on their ropes while we started some garden clean up. This weekend it is pouring rain, so hopefully more snow will be gone by Monday! Although we are going from snow season to mud season now.

The window garden is thriving, I have two rows of fresh lettuce now, and I'm planting more today! I'm going to plant fewer seeds in a bigger pot to see if I can actually manage to grow an entire head of lettuce rather than these "baby" lettuce leaves. :)

Before Christmas, Alex bought himself a nice Fedora. The person was selling it as part of a six hat bundle for $30 CAD. We kind of looked through the box a bit and put it aside until this week. Check out this leather hat! Alex cleaned it all up, conditioned it, re-shaped it and it fits me very well! I'll model it for y'all one of these days! :)

  1. Hi Rain, you just need to get Alex an Indiana Jones whip. He looks as though it would suit him. It’s looking better there now the weather is changing. I’m sorry you won’t be posting so much. It’s the same here, i’m afraid.. it’ll be sad to see some of the dogs go but at least you’ll get you lives back. You’lll deserve it after giving them a place to call home.

  2. Hi Terry! LOL...I thought of Indiana Jones too! :) It's such a nice hat...we have been lucky finding used hats like this. But then, Alex knows how to fix them up. I usually post less once spring arrives, just because there is so much to do this time of year. I'm so torn about the dog thing. I have such a big heart for dogs, always have...but yes, we do need our lives back. I feel like all of our plans have been put on hold the last seven months.

  3. I am so happy for Jack. He is so cute sitting on the porch keeping watch.

Nice hat! You look great in hats too. So nice that Alex knows how to make them like new again.

Your window garden is doing quite well. I know your outdoor planter garden will once more, be fantastic. Looks like it is almost planting time for you too.

  5. So happy for Jack! Also happy that he has learned, to try to protect himself. Poor little dog...

Your little window garden has been, and continues to be, amazing! More of us should try to do this! :-) I have 4 south facing windows, on bottom floor. Plus south facing patio door(s). No kids of animals here, so we could even have a set-up, in front of one of the patio door, which doesn't open. :-)

Ahhh yes, the transition from snow to mud. -sigh- -grin-

  10. So glad Jack is better! It's awful when they can't tell you what ails them. Sorry to hear about your 2 boarders leaving but you had your hands full and it will be nicer for you with gardening season approaching. It is 77 here today....sorry to tell you but truly....too long a hot season makes for weeds that never die and bugs and germs too. Give me the frozen North any day! LOL!
Your seedlings are flourishing! The hat was a great deal and Alex really knows how to give t hem new life! It's gorgeous! Sorry I haven't been by so much. I will catch up but with inside and outside work and the roof, t.v. and doctor appts it has been a busy Spring! But i think of you daily!

  11. Aww, Jack is so cute! That is wonderful news about him. I bet he's really happy about that. And great news, too, about the S&P going home. I know how much you adore them but having your lives back is way overdue. Lucky for them that when they needed a home they stayed with you. They couldn't have found a better one.

Your garden window is amazing. The plants obviously love the spot you've chosen for them and have rewarded you for your efforts. I have a perfect window for that type of things...that now belongs to one of our cats! So no window gardening any time soon. LOL But there's lots of space outdoors. Sooner or later I'll get out there. We have rain for a few days but that's okay. Better than snow!

And the hat! It's beautiful. So cool that Alex knows how to fix them up like that. I laughed out loud at Terry's suggestion for an Indiana Jones Whip :) That would be fun!

  12. Look at those dogs on the snow! They will miss it when it finally leaves in June.
Sounds like a great deal on the hats, I seem to always have one of some kind or anther on when I go out, it just doesn't feel right without my hat on.

  13. Good find on the hats. Are you a hat person, normally? I'll bet Jack is glad to be out and about now. I like your shelves in the window, a perfect place for your seeds to start. -Jenn

  15. Spring is finally here, warm and clear. This winter about finished me off. We went to look for some more blueberry plants today, didn't find any but they may have some in at the farmer's depot in a week.

I hope it all works out well the the two dogs. I have my fingers crossed or luck.

  16. How great to have found these hats. Those are pretty expensive in the stores, especially if one wants a nice one.
Jack looks great; he has a sweet face and profile. Fun to see your lettuce grow.

  17. Oh and forgot to respond back to your comment. That's great you use the woods as your workout. Whatever works I say.

  18. I love your garden on the shelves!!! Love the lounging on the snow! We have been so dry and windy here that there are fires all around the city and out by our new place. No rain in sight. This is not good. I actually hate to say this but we need rain. Or snow. Moisture in any form.

  19. Jack just looks so sweet and innocent! You are getting quite a collection of hats! Do you have a hat stand? I really love your kitchen garden. Wonder where I could do one! LOL Nancy

  20. I am so GLAD that Jack is doing better. I am sure that he is also glad and probably very happy. Snow....oh my goodness I am so glad that we don't keep that mess around as long as you do. We are well into spring here. I even moved my plants out on the deck and out of the house a couple weeks ago.

  23. You still have snow while we're starting to have days that are getting too hot to work in the sun. Doesn't seem quite fair, does it? LOL I absolutely love your window garden. And your hat!

  26. The window garden is genius and it's looking like you will have quite a bountiful outdoor garden this year!! YAY!! And I love the hat! Perfect for all the possible adventures to come! : ) Oh and I just wanted to tell you that you've inspired Sofie and I to make some of our own cheeses! We have only made our own cream cheese, ricotta and feta thus far but we are going to continue with it into the summer. : )
