Harvest Evening - Watercolour (September 2017) |
Hello Friends!
September 12th's theme for our art date is: Harvest. (please visit Rain's Garden on Thursday September 12th to post your link!)
Way back in May, I wrote a list of themes for Thursday's Art Date. Little did I know that this Thursday's theme would coincide with September's Full Harvest Moon.
According to The Old Farmer's Almanac:
"Unlike other full Moon names, which are specific to their respective months, the Harvest Moon is tied to an astronomical event: the autumnal equinox. The full Moon that falls nearest to the equinox (September 21, 22 or 23) takes on the name “Harvest Moon,” rather than its traditional name. (This means that a Harvest Moon could occur in either September or October.)
The Harvest Moon provides the most light at the time when it’s needed most—to complete the harvest!"
My harvest is quite different this year from others. All of my root veggies are HUGE. Look at the size of this turnip! And I grew everything in containers! My tomatoes...still green, doesn't look good! But I will make a lovely harvest stew from the potatoes, carrots, beets, garlic, onions and turnips!
When I think of "harvest" I think of pumpkins. I knit this pumpkin pot holder last year, just for fun! The word "harvest" also makes me think about autumn and fall weather, Thanksgiving, oranges, yellows and reds...I think of full moons, fog, mist and cool weather.
What do you think of when you hear the word "harvest"? Here are some internet images to motivate you!
