Mummified Baked Brie
(Adapted from Taste of Home)
✎ Print Recipe
Ingredients
2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
1/4 cup cranberry sauce or jam of your choice
1 wheel of Brie, cold
1 egg
1 tbsp water
Apple slices
2 dried cranberries or raisins
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
2. Roll out your puff pastry large enough so it will wrap the entire wheel of Brie. Cut the corners to make a circle.
3. Spread some cranberry sauce in a circle on the puff pastry. Try to spread it wide enough so it is the same size as the wheel of cheese.
4. Place the Brie on top of the jam and wrap it up, trimming the puff pastry if there is too much. Place it seem side down on a parchment lined pan.
5. Beat the egg and water together and brush the Brie pastry on top and the sides. Set aside.
6. Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry and cut it into strips. Decorate the Brie with the strips to make it look like a mummy. Tuck any strip ends under the Brie. Brush with the egg wash.
7. Bake 10 minutes. Brush with egg wash again and bake another 15 minutes until golden brown.
8. Cut a few apple slices into circles and place them on the "mummy" eyes. Add cranberries for the eye balls.
Note: This is a great appetizer for any occasion. Just omit the mummy strips and eyes and dress it up as you like.
