This is a recipe for "mother's milk" for kittens, baby squirrels and baby chipmunks that don't have access to their mom's. We found baby squirrels abandoned and they absolutely love this stuff. According to research, they need to be fed this 5-6 times a day until they start to eat solids. I got this recipe from a lady who works at the local pet shop and she insisted that no substitutions be made.
Recipe:
4 ounces boiling water
1 tsp corn syrup
4 ounces evaporated milk
1 egg yolk
Boil the water and add the corn syrup. Mix well. Slowly whisk in the milk. In a separate bowl, drizzle in some of the milk mixture into a beaten egg yolk to temper it. Whisk everything together. It'll stay good in the fridge for 48 hours. Warm the milk a little before feeding.
We have been straining the mixture because some of the egg gets stuck in the opening of the baby bottle.
