Settled in the Maritimes of Canada, surrounded by the forest and Acadian Mountain Chain, I live a simple life of gratitude. This blog is a journal of my art, food, furkids, garden, home, my life and my thoughts. Thanks for reading!
Mini Croques Monsieurs
Mini Croques Monsieurs
(I used lots of leftovers, so the list below made 6 appetizers)
Ingredients:
Baguette, sliced
Dijon
Ham
Thyme
Cheese Sauce
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1/2 tbsp flour
1/4 cup milk, warmed
1/4 cup shredded Gruyere
1/4 tsp Dijon
Directions:
1. Make the sauce: Heat the butter in a sauce pan on medium low until melted. Add the flour, whisk and cook about a minute without browning. Slowly add the warmed milk, whisking, until thickened, about 5 minutes. Take off the heat and add the cheese and mustard, whisk then cover with plastic wrap, make sure it's on the surface so a skin doesn't form and set aside.
2. Preheat the broiler to low. Lightly butter a foil-lined pan and place the baguette slices on top. On each baguette slice, spread Dijon and layer ham.
3. Spread some of the cheese sauce on top of each piece. Broil until bubbly. Sprinkle with thyme and serve hot!
