Hello Friends, 😊
Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Points and Dots. Isn't Bugs Bunny a stinker? I asked him what he thought of my art date theme and all he could do was point and laugh...sigh, no respect!! 😊
I tried my hand at "pointillism"...and I have to say, I was not a fan! Maybe I just don't have the patience to paint individual dots ...anyway, my watercolour leaf was my attempt; and I made a version in black and white in photo software to gussy it up.
Today I'm linking up with some lovely bloggers, please visit them for some very fun and interesting posts!
Friday November 13th: Paint Party Friday

I remember my grandfather having a lovely antique secretary's desk. I always wanted one and am on the lookout for a used one if I can find it! I did this quick sketch with ink and graphite. |

Your 3D Trick Art is so cool, Rain!
ReplyDeleteBugs definitely has no respect, but I love how he's pointing at your art, which I find so adorable.
ReplyDeleteSeurat would be proud of your pointillism. I think it's quite appealing and probably quite time consuming, too.
I've never seen Lucille Ball, even though they show reruns on some cable channels here in the states. Although I recognized her, I never knew she wore a polka dot dress.
Wow, Jack being a pointer made the list this week. I would never have considered that. A really clever take on the theme, too, He is beautiful in your charcoal drawing of him.
I fear I would have to skip a theme if it was 3-D trick art. I simply don't draw, but I sure appreciate those who do! Wonderful take on this theme, Rain. I'm delighted to see how many points and dots you found. I'll be by at midnight my time to join you.
Your three D art blows my mind.
ReplyDeleteI do like the black and white pointillism but it is Jack who steals the show this week (sorry Bugs).
We were thinking alike this week Rain! Love all your pointy art and Jack’s charcoal. Going to check out that 3D art.
ReplyDeleteNice prompt and art
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday Rain
Much💗love
Bugs Bunny can laugh well, but I laugh too!!!
ReplyDeleteJack is so sweet with his faithful dog eyes and the black and white picture is fabulous! It's cool with your hand!
these are all great, fantastic works on the subject.
Have a good week,hug Elke
Lots of beautiful art and photos. Have a good day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI like your picture of Jack, that's a difficult challenge this week and drawing with dots must take ages - I know someone who does do this kind of work for charity and her animal dot pictures take weeks and weeks so you did well to get one in so fast! I might have a bit of time to join in on the next one as have some enforced annual leave :) (you have to use it or lose it at our place of work)
ReplyDeleteYour art is beautiful Rain.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Lucille Ball here on television many times, loved it.
I love your charcoal portrait of Jack.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteLove the Bugs image and the Lucille Ball. Jack is so cute, great portrait! My hubby has a desk that was handed down from his family, it looks just like your sketch. Take care, enjoy your day!
Ha ha! Love the photo of him looking at what's baking in the oven!
ReplyDeletelol, Bugs pointing fingers. Not nice of him.
ReplyDeleteI remember Lucille ball she was popular at the time. Don´t remember the dress though. :)
I have seen work from this guy before. I think it was him. I am really amazed with how he creates the shadows. :) If you make it a theme for later on I might have trouble as I am a bad at drawing. :) Even if I created 3D articles on my job, but that was another story.
Take care.
Jack looks like the kind of dog that would love the whole world. My daughter got a pound dog years ago, and she just died last year, but she was always so happy to be in a loving home, and embraced the world with gusto.
ReplyDeleteawwwww...jack has both points and dots!
ReplyDelete...yep, I'm seeing dots today!
ReplyDeleteRain,
ReplyDeleteI'm joining in today. Bugs shouldn't laugh. You do great work! This is a fun art exercise but like you I don't have the patience for it plus it tires my hand. WOW, you did a fab job on Lucille Ball! I knew who she was before I ever read who it is. Your white charcoal on black of Jack is wonderful. Thanks for the challenge this week and for hosting the fun, my dear. Stay safe, healthy, and warm! ;)
Bugs definitely had no respect for your cool artwork with the leaves, but what patience that must have taken, Rain! Jack is a very sweet looking dog and his charcoal likeness was really well done, but looks darker than his personality. That 3D art is simply amazing and what fun you must have had with it. i really liked the letters "jumping" off the pages. The image on your hand was simply amazing, my friend!
ReplyDeleteAwesome art Rain and I'm in love with Jack!
ReplyDeleteGreat art work for the theme. I see you are a Bugs fan. Me too.
ReplyDeleteDawn aka Spatulas On Parade
That Jack! What a sweetheart! I love hounds. Bugs is pretty expressive, well done.
ReplyDeleteI adore Jack!
ReplyDeleteI adore your art, too. You are so gifted.
Nice art - ...i come here to look at your art and always leave inspired. very creative you are.
ReplyDeleteJack also gets points for being a cuties. He's also got dots.
ReplyDeleteI have always been a fan of pointilism, especially that of the French period. Yours looks very nice.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see your art and all of your photographs.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, thank you.
Have a happy weekend.
All the best Jan
Ohhh I love these dot leaves and of course Lucy. The antique desk is amazing. You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteBugs is so cute! and I simply love your Jack. He is the sweetest looking dog. The charcoal is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe leaf is really lovely Rain.
ReplyDeleteWhen they say practice makes perfect they are right! Your artwork just gets better and better. That Jack is so precious. It's his eyes...they just make you want to hug him he's so sweet. STay safe and stay well!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF
ReplyDeleteMUCH💗LOVE
pointillism is my fave form... you have a hard line around the colors, it works when you let the points of light/color touch each other color forming the line.I did some pointillist work on fabric with a fabric marker daubing the colors, fun stuff to explore and I happen to love your leaves!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful art work, Rain.
ReplyDeleteYour dog, Jack is a heart throb. :)
I’ve always wanted an old secretary too.
Love the points and dots and especially love the charcoal of Jack.
ReplyDeleteI like the black and white version of the leaf.
ReplyDeleteOH my ... where to start. Well you magically create expressions on Bug's face that says it all. And he is pointing at you because he knows you are the best! Your maple leaves are exquisite and, believe it or not I really prefer the white on black version ... almost looks like jewels :)Maybe my favorite is Lucile ... she played such a big part in my life and in my children's lives. We could use some of her humor now :( As for Jack, who couldn't love his little face and his big brown eyes and you pastel on black paper of him is perfect. I really love the black paper art work you have done and even the ones I have attempted. It always surprises me how well they turn out. And, OMG your 3D ... I did go to the site you recommended before but I still haven't attempted it and I know I won't try putting a big square hole in my hand ... that hurts to look at it :0 So, obviously, you have impressed again. There seems to be no end to your talent :)
ReplyDeleteWe have some relief now that "His Majesty" has been defeated, but there are months of chaos yet to deal with and the Virus issue which he and his administration are completely ignoring has gone out of control. It is dangerous to leave my house, but then, I do have to grocery shop and take my daughter to the doctor. I have to admit it is scary ... chances of me or my husband surviving exposure are slim to none. I just try to be super careful, but the stress lives on ... at least until January 20th. Wish us well, Rain ... You are in the right place to be safe, but still ... be careful. Don't take anything for granted :) Stay well ...

omg, so much to see here! That 3D-drawing is absolutely fabulous. Thanks for the link to that YouTube-channel, certainly something worth trying :-) I love your little Jack, and that charcoal-drawing really does him justice. I also love that B&W version of yur pointillism-leaf. Great work, all of it! Happy PPF ♥
ReplyDeleteLove your artwork, Rain, especially the 3D art! That is really cool.
ReplyDeleteHell Rain. After your comment last week, and more so following this post, I am back to encourage you to go ahead with your plan to sell your art. Please mark me down as one of your first sales – preferably an original. I hope you will post to England?
ReplyDeleteAs a kid many moons ago I used to watch Lucille Ball and Desi so your ink and graphite reminded me of her polka dots. At the time I Love Lucy seemed very funny but I guess it would seem very dated now? It’s a super picture that would evoke memories for many black & white viewers.
Jack is obviously a special friend to your family, all the more so because he’s a rescue. He’s lovely.
Hello Rain, Your dog Jack is so cute, adorable photos and portrait.
ReplyDeleteI love your artwork, you really are talented. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your day. Have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Hello. I like your art works. Jack is so cute dog.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Wonderful mixed media artwork around the theme 'Dots'. My favorite, though, is your sweet doggie ~ divine charcoal sketch ^_^

you are very talented, it's nice that you try all different media's...even if you don't end up loving them. i like the dots, i have a friend that does doodle art and loves it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe charcoal sketch of the dog is outstanding. Your other sketches are also great.
ReplyDeleteBe well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Love your art!
ReplyDeleteJack is a sweetheart!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Love your art, Rain. It's beautiful. My daughter loves Lucille Ball ever since she first saw the I love Lucy show when she was young.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
Jack also has dots on his nose ;-)
ReplyDeleteall your art is fun to see.
I might have to look at an old Lucy show. I also enjoyed that. Your portrait is fun.
I love it all!!! Lucille Ball is my favorite!
ReplyDeletePointillism is SO time consuming! I love looking at it but I can’t DO it!!
As hard as I tried, I am unable to add your link to my left sidebar. I'm not the only person this affects. It appears Nicole is having the same problem with her blog, too.
ReplyDeletesuper variety of art projects! I especially like the leaves. And of course your pups are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI love the 3D....wow, great job. HAHA....since you don't follow my furbabe blog you probably did not know that Chey and Lily now have a new sister. She is six weeks old now. Her mom abandoned her at 2 weeks and my sis in law took her in to bottle feed. I went over about three times a week to help with her since they also brought the four feral babes in at 6 weeks to find them home. Unlike the litter before, we started socializing them at a week old. All found homes. But Kim had her hands full so I went to help. I fell in love with the little 2 weeker. Once she was vetted and found to not have feline Aids, I brought her home hoping that Lily would take to her. Its slow, but we are getting there....As for point painting...I did a 16x20 painting like that once. Most of it was point, some regular. Not a big fan either.
ReplyDeleteSweet dog. Our dog's name id Jack or Jacky also. Rescues are wonderful

Late again for this week, but I enjoyed the Points and Dots theme. The 3D art is really scary and "painful" *LOL* Thanks for sharing! Would be fun as a theme for next year. https://kokopellidesign.blogspot.com/2020/11/thursday-art-date-with-rain-points-and.html
ReplyDeleteI love your dotty leaves, Rain. And oh my - your 3-D drawings are terrific! :)
ReplyDeleteI grew up watching Lucille Ball and Rickie! What a hoot, then later her orange wigs. Nice job! Your dog is so cute, cool 3D on your hand! We're watching Haven right now on Netflix, was filmed in coastal Nova Scotia, have you watched it? We fell in love with the scenery and I was able to find a 2021 wall calendar with photos from NS, happy dance!
ReplyDeleteJack has the most sweet eyes.
ReplyDeleteJack's my fave; love seeing him. Wish we had a dog like him.
ReplyDeleteBugs Bunny is one of my favourite cartoon character. I think he is cute. I like the black and white leaf version. Jack is adorable. Ouch! That is a great 3D trick art on your palm.
ReplyDeletelove your sweet dog
ReplyDeleteI love the leaves...how beautiful! And your Lucy is very good! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by Monday WRites today Rain
ReplyDeleteMuch💝love
Fantástico blog, me ha encantado. Saludos desde el norte de España.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing your artwork, Rain! As a child of the '50s and 60's Bugs Bunny was always a favorite. Your Jack looks like a sweet dog--love your portrait of him. 3D art is amazing. Every summer Denver, Colorado, hosts a Chalk Art Festival on city streets and many of the pastel chalk artists draw the most amazing 3D art as well as portraits, etc. I have past blog posts about it. I hope they will be able to do it again this summer.
ReplyDeleteRain - I am no longer a regular reader of the Wall Street Journal (do people still read newspapers?) but I always admired the pointillism portraits. I think it works better in black and white. I am huge fan of Lucille Ball! My husband is the proud owner of a roll-top desk that we purchased from an antique store - it was formerly owned by a doctor here in town and still sports crayon drawings (from his grandkids) in some of the drawers! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
ReplyDeleteSo much to find, Rain! It's always a wonderful Post here to read. I love the funny Tweety and other drawings.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week. Stay healthy and well, dear blogfriend.
Happy MosaicMonday
I remember making art like that in school. Fun.
ReplyDeleteOoh that 3D hand trick is kind of disturbing, but I so want to learn how to do it! You Tube art channel here I come! The leaf is ok in color but beautiful in B&W.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog. I love your artwork!
ReplyDeleteJack is such a darling cutie pie dear Rain :)))
ReplyDeletebugs is always self centered anyway ,et i liked how you managed to play with expressions :)
i am not funny like her but i dressed dotted shirt back in my village ,it was blue as expected with white dots so it was stary sky for me simply lol
loved the antique desk ,i do love antique stuff ,it has kind of fascination for me always ,this is sweet of you to mention your grandfather here :)
more blessings to you both my friend!
You are so clever and talented with your artwork. I could look at all your pictures for hours! Dots is the word of the day! Hugs, RO
