Hello Friends, ๐
Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is The Old Masters. I wish I had more time with this theme, I had so many neat ideas! But I was lucky that Bugs Bunny was able to squeeze me in for this tribute to Johannes Vermeer's "Girl With A Pearl Earring". I actually really love this oil painting which was painted in 1665.
I decided to take a page from Leonardo da Vinci's book. He did a self-portrait back in 1512 titled "Portrait of a Man in Red Chalk". Here's my self-portrait: "Portrait of a Woman in Red Pastels". ๐๐ Actually I used hues of red, orange and yellow for this one. This was a simple, very quick sketch. I tried to capture da Vinci's facial expression in my own.
That's all for now folks. Thanks for your sweet comments on my last blog post. I feel like I'm on the verge of burning out again and I'm taking time every day to relax, do yoga and meditate - it's helping me a lot. Please check out the link gadget below to see more The Old Masters artwork! I'll be back to visit you all in October! ๐๐

Hope you are enjoying your time away. With all you have to look forward to, I can see why you would need one. Bugs did a great Vermeer. It's a beauty and so is your lovely self portrait. SO much better than a selfie.
ReplyDeleteLove your elegant Bugs Bunny today! At school we did lots of red chalk drawings, yours is beautiful. It's a medium I love. Look after yourself, and get plenty of rest if you are feeling so tired, you've shouldered a lot lately. Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI have never seen bugs look so sexy.
ReplyDeleteLove your self portrait. Keep looking after yourself. Please.
Hello Rain, I like your self portrait. eyes and ears - I think this will be an interesting one for next week :)
ReplyDeleteHello Rain,
ReplyDeleteas an old master, Miss Bunny is very pretty and so much fun.A beautiful drawn woman face.
Leonardo da Vinci's sketch is very fine.I find this drawing fascinating the facial features.
Always have a good rest, that's all been pretty much. All the best in September you two and your darlings!
Love hug Elke
I like your self portrait. :) Not sure though how bugs thinks of becomming a woman. :)
ReplyDeleteAs it happens, you have the same color palette as I have on my grass painting. :)
Take care and take it easy. :)
Rain,
ReplyDeleteYou're not going to believe this but we both used Vermeer's "Girl With A Pearl Earring" for this week. Ha-Ha! Talk about great minds...okay, mine isn't all that great but still I like saying it. Anywho, your cartoon replication is fabulous. I love how fun you are with your art. Hey, nice job on the self portrait. I definitely see the resemblance. I'm not ready to tackle such a project. :) Thanks for pushing me through your weekly art themes. I love the challenge! Have a doodletastic day!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteYour self portrait is beautiful. Take care, enjoy your day!
Your self portrait turned out beautiful ~ Yes keep taking deep relaxing breaths and take one day..one moment at a time
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fun and creative work this week Rain always a pleasure to see what you have come up with.
ReplyDeleteYour work is fantastic, love both!
ReplyDeleteYour Old Master reproductions are great! Bugs looks SO fetching!
ReplyDeleteYour self portrait is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhen I become overwhelmed, which seems to be more frequent now, meditation, some yoga, and walking helps me immensely. Peace can be found,
So you think Bugs doesn't mind being cast as a girl :) I toyed with the same picture, but she looks so modern (doesn't she?) I decided to go with a different theme. But, that said, Great Minds Again ... I also did DaVinci. I love his work even though he seemed to show himself to be a sourpuss in his own self portrait. Your self portrait makes you look serious or maybe even a little sad(which I know you aren't) so I was glad when you said you were trying to look like DaVinci. I know you are busy, but you still manage to put up a great post in spite of it. Busy is probably a good thing in these dark days, so push on, my friend, it will be worth every bit that you accomplish. Stay well ...

ReplyDeleteHi Rain bugs wears that pearl earring very well, I think he enjoyed posing for you judging by his smile. Lovely delicate self portrait, the background colour is very calming. I hope you are now taking time out for you and one step at a time with life. Life has been so busy my end with family and work and trying to run with the weather and finish outdoor work before the weather gets any wetter. Look forward to October, it's my favourite month of the year.
ReplyDeleteHugs Tracey xx
These are just fabulous, Rain. I love the Girl with the Pearl Earring especially. SO much fun.
ReplyDeleteYou do beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of work to do. You have a fabulous work ethic, though, so I know you'll chop things off the list.
Take care!
Your art, as always, is amazing. You've had a very busy, exciting and eventful year, so no wonder you need time to rest. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteI love your art with the Old Masters techniques. Fun to look at.
ReplyDeleteYou are so demanding of yourself .. you need to take breaks, this is a fun thing to do and one of my favorite movies was The Girl with the Pearl Earring.
ReplyDeleteNormally I am a huge Van Gogh fan ... but you have some beautiful hues of orange and red .. well done !
I am a yoga student .. self taught .. more on the Yin yoga side .. it has helped me enormously .. I started when I was 15 but life got in the way .. so almost 2 years ago I committed to it and it truly does help in so many ways.
Good luck with the list .. you will be fine !

Hi Rain. I am playing catch up. This eye recovery is not as fast or as pleasant at my surgery a month ago. I love your master piece and your self portrait. Brilliant. I see you made cheese. I was going to make some today but got caught in the garden all day. I checked one of my potato containers and big purple potato was coming up out of the dirt. So I had to take care of those. Stop by my blog tomorrow to see the bounty. Hope all is well with you and that your new place is giving you joy. Hugs N
ReplyDeleteDidn't Scarlet Johannsen play Bugs in a movie? He looks just like her here! ๐
ReplyDeleteOh, no! Bugs is in drag again!
ReplyDeleteBugs as Vermeer was an interesting portrait, Rain, but I enjoyed the self portrait a bit more. Hope you will get everything or at least many things done while on your blog break and see you when you are back.
ReplyDeleteI admire your courage in continuing to put your art out there. I could never do it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rain. Sincerely, Cloud
