Hello Friends! ππ
Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Jagged and Ice. I decided to go with an Ice theme for my art this week. Bugs Bunny is on his way to the gold medal with his ice skating! I don't think Daffy Duck is too impressed though. π
I've been doing a lot of charcoal drawings, I used toned blue paper for this one. It's very subtle, but there are blue hues in this paper. I used a lot of white charcoal for my drawing of an iceberg.
Here's another iceberg - this time on black sketch paper with white charcoal. This paper is called ArtAgain, it's recycled, I love that! Those look like icy waters!
It was rough trying to shovel out after the ice storm last weekend. There was a layer of ice, probably 6 inches, plus a foot of snow on top...this little finch didn't let that stop him though. He pecked his way right through the ice for the sunflower seeds below!
My art classes continue to bewitch me!π This is my Rhino after live lesson number four - we've been working in vertical sections each week. Last night we worked on the forehead, eye, jaw and chin. We also added darker values to the area around the nose and mouth. I love these classes, I get to interact with students from all around the globe! And everyone is very supportive. There's a forum we all belong to and we exchange progress photos and encourage each other, it's very cool!
On that note, thanks friends for your support too, it means the world to me. π Almost to the day two years ago, I posted my first drawing. It was Chilly Willy, the little Looney Tunes penguin who cried ice cubes. I've been very public about my artistic journey, which was very difficult for me at first, but a very warm thanks to all of you who have made it so easy to showcase my creativity! π
Here is a black and white collage of photos I took during our icy winter weather. I'm very much looking forward to spring!!
Well, that's all for now folks! But please check out the link widget below to see more Jagged and Ice artwork! And please join me on Sunday for my food and pets post. πΎπΎπΎ
I'm also linking up with Paint Party Friday tomorrow!

Your charcoal icebergs look like photos so good. Cute ice skating Bugs Bunny. You are a great host too thanks. You are learning a lot from the art classes and your collage is lovely and cold.
ReplyDeleteHello Rain,
ReplyDeleteBugs Bunny is in action with his friends
I always think it's cool when you paint it! But also your mountains and the cute little penguin. * wow * the rhinoceros is doing something, so this will be fabulous I'm already in love with this drawing Deodorant photos whether the bird in the ice or the other collage. It's a successful posting again. I am happy sometimes it is difficult for me and then it clicks on the last minute. But this challenge is a lot of fun. I want to say thank you for getting to know you.
I wish you a nice week, Elke
Blown away by your work. I particularly love the icebergs (a trip to Antarctic is a highlight of my life) and I love seeing the rhino progress.
ReplyDeleteYour art is beautiful, Rain - Bugs Bunny is fun, the icebergs are wonderful and the Rhino is just wonderful. Glad you are happy with your art classes. Love the finch hacking its way through the ice, they are so clever and brave! And beautiful photos, too. No ice and snow here, so I'm still relying on 'oldies' and Pexels! Have a great day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteLove your drawings especially the Rhino.
ReplyDeleteRain, I always love all your artwork but that Rhino is unbelievable! I didn't know you were takin gart lessons. Amazing! You truly are talented but also you have worked very hard to get to this point. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteRain,
ReplyDeleteBugs looks great on the ice! :) I wanted to sketch an iceberg but changed my mind. I still may do one and when I do I'll be sure to share it. Yours are great. How cool to use blue toned paper and white charcoal!! Your rhino is looking great. I'm delighted you're enjoying the classes so much. That's wonderful! Ahh, Chilly Willy is adorable! :) Oh goodness your icy photos make me frigid just looking at them! Brrr, no thank you! Speaking of icy, our weather is supposed to get a lot cooler, especially at night, which is going to feel horrible after the spring-like temps. Thanks for hosting the artsy fun, my friend!
I have always liked the drama and truth of charcoal pictures. You do them well.
ReplyDeletewow rain!!! that rhino is beyond fantastic. you are so talented! that is one determined little bird digging through the ice to get to those seeds...so cute!
ReplyDeleteWow, Bugs, I am impressed with your muscular legs and your obvious talent. I hope you win a lifetime supply of carrot juice :) And, Rain, you continue to amaze me with your charcoal drawings ... you have such talent and I can see it developing before my eyes with the progress on your Rhino ... he is going to be a beauty and I fully expect you to frame him and find a place for him on your wall where you can see it and be reminded of how good you are! You have had quite the winter ... six inches of ice and a foot of snow. We have had hardly any snow and an occasional thin layer of ice. Good for the little bird, the will to live is strong in him. I can speak for all of us, I am sure, that we are grateful that you chose to share your talents and at the same time give us the opportunity to share ours. You are lovely and talented and have become an important person in my life ... I hope you take the time to bask in your success :)

Your icebergs are so realistic. Amazing work. Then the Rhino pops up. Good golly! Very life like. Pretty soon you will be teaching those classes.
ReplyDeletenice pieces of icy art :) Loved to see the bird working so hard to get to the food. And, an adorable penguin :)
ReplyDeleteGawd, I love that rhino! So textured! And your charcoal iceberg drawings make me feel the cold! And thanks for the info about Artagain paper -- we use it in our classes too but no one mentioned it has recycled paper content in it.
ReplyDeletetwo years ago you began your art journey - well.....wow - I always love seeing your daffy cartoons - ...daffy in thise case meaning adorably cute. And that painting with the charcoal so beautiful.
ReplyDeletereally enjoyed the post.
Ice is never fun ... but the collage is beautiful. I agree with you...spring cant come soon enough. It's -30c here today and we are up for a two day snow storm. We are hibernating.
ReplyDeleteThe Rino looks so awesome and so do the icebergs. Your art class sounds perfect for you :)
Thanks Christine :) I really enjoyed doing the icebergs once I got the hang of it! I love that black paper too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elke :) I was challenged for this week too, my charcoals were last minute but like you, something clicked! :) I always seem to have a fun idea for the cartoons though! I'm so happy to get to know you too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Elephant's Child :) Wow...a trip to Antarctica sounds so amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie :) I think that the Rhino is my favourite piece these days because I'm really taking my time with it and I'm learning a lot about shadows and texture!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anesha :) The Rhino is a great exercise in detail, it's so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam! :)) Two years ago, I wouldn't have thought I'd be taking art classes and actually drawing so well! I'm very proud of the progress I've made!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy :) Oh please do share if you draw an iceberg! I had so much trouble with mine, drew it and redrew it a bunch of times (the one on blue toned paper that is)...I just couldn't get it! Then I realized it's just an ice mountain - draw it like a mountain!!! :) I wish I could say "no thank you" to our winters too lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Arleen! I love how you described the drama and truth! Wonderful compliment!! :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Joyce :)) The birds are amazing aren't they? Yeah, I do love the Rhino, I'm learning a lot from those live lessons!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea :) You noticed Bugs' legs!! I drew them very taught lol...I was wondering if people would notice lol! I'm so proud of the Rhino so far, honestly I never thought I could draw before but it just took learning some technique, I'm really happy about that! :) You're so sweet, thank you so much for your comment!! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Marsha!! :) Actually that is something I thought about, eventually getting into teaching some art classes! A long term project though! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Monica :) The birds are hard workers! I put out a bunch of new seeds though, so they could have a reward for their hard work! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra :) Isn't the rhino cool? I learned in that class to take it easy and go slow! That's how I got all of that texture! :) Yeah, the ArtAgain paper is really cool. So far I've only found it in black though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy :)) I love your play on daffy :) I'm so glad you enjoyed my post!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sis :) Ice LOOKS beautiful! Although I only really enjoy it in my wine spritzers lol! ;) The art classes are so much fun, I'm doing a few each day and really loving it! Oh gosh, we're hibernating too, though tomorrow is shopping day, ick.
ReplyDeleteI love all of these, and wow your icebergs are so realistic! More please!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week! :)

ReplyDeleteThanks so much Becki :) I'm really enjoying the Rhino lesson! :)
ReplyDeletedear Rain i loved the bugs while skating :)))
ReplyDeleteyou charcoal drawing are STUNNING !
specially i found the third one bit challenging as it can be hard to manifest subjects that deal with darkness i think ?
your rhino is amazingly wonderful ,i found it far better than previous attempts as details are strikingly beautiful now eyes particularly
thank you for continuing this art journey and specially for sharing it with us as there is so much to learn in your pattern of life and art i must say :)
absolutely loved this bird whom you stalked while shovel
wishing you more joys and peace ahead my friend!
Your artwork is amazing, Rain. You really have a gift!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I follow you. I really enjoy your work. A sight for sore eyes!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing both fun and stunning art pieces.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF and weekend π
Oh, i've been watching the figure skating.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my blog yoday Rain
Muchπ¨love
First of all, thank you dear Rain for your lovely comment on my post. You made ME smile . I hope all is going much better.
ReplyDeleteI adore bugs bunny and your Looney Tunes characters bring back such memories too:)
The iceberg drawings and that rhino are just amazing cuz I have some idea of all the detail work and light and shadow thinking that goes into such art.
That finch is adorable. When we get bad weather I always shovel areas on the ground beneath feeders so the birdies can get at the fallen seeds. And i replace a water dish frequently:) Boy, that was some ice storm you had! Stay safe and careful out there.
Happy PPF and have a wonderful weekend!
Lovely artworks. I didn't know you could get white charcoal.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful artwork Rain. Happy PPF ~π✨~
ReplyDeleteYour art and photos are very varied, creative and beautiful and fun ~ ^_^

Outstanding Rhino.
To top it all you included the most fabulous photographs of the finch.
Great post, I hope you are enjoying the weekend.
My good wishes.
All the best Jan
Thanks so much Baili! :) Yes...you are right about the third piece. Trying to create something in a negative drawing style didn't come easy for me and that's one thing I am practicing a lot because I love that black paper! And thank you again, the Rhino is really coming along, I wonder how many more live lessons there will be to finish it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sandi! :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn!! :) You're very sweet!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Sirkkis :))
ReplyDeleteThanks and you're welcome Gillena! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Linda :) Well, my day didn't get better, it got worse, but both Alex and I found a way to smile all day. :) All is sorted out now though! I'm so glad you like the Looney Tunes. At one point I thought maybe of stopping those, but I enjoy the challenge of making them fit into my theme! It's fun! I would love to put water out for the birds and squirrels but it would just freeze!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lin :) I LOVE the white charcoal! I have other tints as well! Interesting medium! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sue!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Tammie :)) I can't wait to get going on the rhino too, the classes are Wednesday evenings, I hope we at least finish the head this week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Martha :)) xx I'm REALLY enjoying the art classes, it's opened me up a lot in so many ways! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jan! :)) I'm so glad you enjoyed it! We basically hibernated all weekend, it was glorious!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm following your rhino progress with delight, Rain. As I remarked somewhere before, the texture in this drawing is amazing! That black and white collage is magnificent!!! You come a long way from Chilly Willy, my friend!
ReplyDeleteLove your second, charcoal drawing; I like the moody and dark. That finch go! Glad he was able to get some mum mum through all of that snow and ice. Girlfriend, your rhino rocks! I love the leathery wrinkles you've painted in its hide.
ReplyDeleteThanks Louise! :) It's amazing to me when I look back at my work...I have learned so much over the years and though I love Chilly Willy, I'm glad I've improved lol!! I hope we have that Rhino finished soon, I'm stopping myself from working on it at home, I don't want to miss any tips and techniques the teacher has during the live Wednesday night classes!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Stefanie! That's my favourite too. Oh I do love that Rhino! I'm learning a lot about values and shading!! :)
ReplyDeletePoor little finch, pecking through the ice for the sunflower seeds!!! All of your art is stunning Rain! I truly mean that! Even your fun cartoon ones!! You are so talented! Love seeing your snowy pictures!! Big Hugs!
